Out for a drive when I noticed the emergency drive signal light start flickering. It flickered for a minute or so gradually becoming brighter until fully on. I could not feel any difference in driving but the emergency drive light stayed on. I pulled off the road put it in neutral and activated emergency drive like one would normally, and the vacuum actuated. Then while still in neutral turned the emergency drive off like normal and the light went away. I drove another 300 yards and the light flickered on again. And does so every time I start driving. That being said I have ceased driving it until I have more information. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or knew what the problem might be. Thanks

Switch out of adjustment

Would you mind expanding on that please? Thanks.

Sorry I was in the truck when I wrote that

The emergency brake light switch is mounted on top of the brake pedal way up in the dash, it is a spring loaded switch that when the pedal is pushed down it makes electrical conductivity to ground allowing the light bulb to work, if it is adjusted to high it could make electrical contact in the switch, also if it’s loose it could slide either direction off the brake pedal and make connection, and lastly if the switch is defective it could be shorting it self to ground and making connection

Thank you for the quick response. However I was inquiring about the emergency drive not emergency brake.

The "Emergency Drive" light located in the speedometer housing is there to indicate that you have manually locked the differential inside of your QuadraTrac Transfer Case . This is a vacuum switch usually located in the glove box. You did the right thing by pulling over and going through the steps you wrote about. At this point I'm guessing that the light is coming on due to a faulty indicator switch. This is located on the top of the Transfer Case right in front of the vacuum control diaphragm. It is a negative ground switch. Meaning it turns the light on by grounding the circuit. These switches are a manual device that screw into the housing. When the shaft from the vacuum device pushes in or out, the switch is activated or deactivated. The are relative inexpensive. I would replace it and see what happens. If you still have the problem there may be a short in the circuit. Here is what you need: Quadratrac Emergency Drive Switch
If you are still worried about whether or not it is engaged, put the vehicle up on jacks, place the Transmission in neutral. Have someone rotate the rear wheels while you hold the front wheels. They should not turn. If they do it is engaged. For normal driving the Transfer Case determines what wheels need the power to them. When you engage the "Emergency Drive" you are forcing the Transfer Case to send equal amounts of power to the front and rear wheels.

:ty: Health issues have kept me out of the game, but we are turning the corner on that.
