Has anyone taken their emissions computer, wiring off? How about the Cat, has anyone removed? Thinking of putting a 78 exhaust on my 85 jeep.
What type of performance +/-'s would i have?
Thanks

I took mine off, and now have a fuel injected system. The cat has also been replaced to a straight thru type cat which provides a better flow. The pipe size has been increased with adding a better flowing muffler. It is also smog legal for Ca.

If the Jeep runs good-WHY would you want to?
I still have to SMOG mine. So I have no choice.

Google Nutter or Nutter Bypass for the emissions/computer removal. The wiring is essentially its' own harness save 1 or 2 wires.
Go here to find what does what and what the computer controls. Table of Contents

Why remove the Cat? Doubt if makes a performance difference.

Are you talking about everything? To include the manifold? What engine do you have, L6 or V8? You're not going to see dramatic increasing in horsepower or MPG gains by removing SMOG stuff, unless it's defective or your catalytic converter is plugged.

A Cat is about as innocuous an emissions system as you will find and it does clean up some emissions, why remove it/them.

:agree:
YUP-what he sayz......
Leave it attached.
