1979 Jeep CJ7 TH400 Automatic 258 I6 Quadratrac Amc 20 rear & Dana 30 front, 32 x 11.5 x 15 tires. Currently a Complete Custom Rebuild in progress.

Also I own a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, White, all stock with 4.0L. automatic, and police package. Best part of that is it came with leather seats! This package also has the NP242 Transfer Case, 8.25 rear end, and trailer towing package.
So I heard about this stuff on the Sunday Morning Power Nation Shows. Looked it up and found that it was available at Walmart. So what the heck. Found it in the paint section not the automotive section. They only had quart bottles. I bought two and poured them in a plastic ice cream container. (without the ice cream - I ate that! :D ) To try it out, I put this old latch I found on my buddies farm. We dug it up out in the field. Here are some pictures:

I also put one of my yokes I needed for my Transfer Case in it. Don't have a before, but you can imagine what it looked like.

I like it. What do you think?

WOW, that is a difference. Do you think it will flash rust back? Does the product suggest an inhibitor after application. Cool stuff.

How long was the soak?
LG

I soaked over night. The next day I rinsed with water and dried with paper towel. Left as is for several days - No rust. I'm sure a coating of WD40 rust inhibitor would be in order if you were going too leave it for a long time.

Ideally, I want to dip my parking brack assembly with it. I can't see any other way too make it rust free and not take it completely apart.

Any rust removing should be followed by a spray of some sort of protection, paint or oil.

I bought a new parking brake assm from Steve White motors on ebay a few years ago, said it fit CJs and YJs for a reasonable price. They have almost 9000 items for sale on ebay..... my eyes are hurting from trying to scroll through them all

I've used several bottles of that stuff - I love it. But it ain't fast...... but very effective. It can be used several times depending on how much rust it eats. Make sure you do a thorough degreasing first - won't touch greasy or oily rust.

Used it yesterday for the first time... nothing short of amazing!

I'm thinking about eating it over ice cream -

Wow - that's fantastic. I was on an old tractor forum for several years and someone there had a setup lye and a battery charger. He used those round plastic kiddie pools and could do large pieces with it and they came out like that.

PB, thanks for the heads up on that product. I am going to try it.
When I strip something in the bead blaster it gets a spray down with POR-15 "metal-ready". Then rinse with clean water and dry. Prevents surface rust from forming and helps adhesion when painting.
This is the same solution powder coaters use before coating.
Does anyone know if Lowes or Home Depot carry the evapo-rust.
thanks,mike

Advance Auto stores around here carry it......

Does it have to soak or can you spray it on heavily and let it sit?

Has to stay wet. Spray it and lay plastic wrap over it. Reapply as needed to maintain wetness
