I found some outside the frame headers that cane off a 78 CJ7 for a good price. Will these work with my 86 CJ7 when i install the AMC 304 ? I researched and found conflicting answers so now i am asking the experts. Manual Transmission from donor and same on my jeep.

I would say yes, but I have no personal experience with outside the frame heaters. Mine are inside the frame. Well see what the educated say LOL

Headers are not all that expensive to begin with, is it really worth the attempt? If it were me I'd get new headers in the configuration I wanted. My headers (they came with the CJ) run inside the frame, an over all safer place for them to be. Also, headers are a pain to live with. They are hot, they are bulky, they are difficult to keep tight, they do not help with low RPM torque. If I could easily do it I'd go back with the stock manifolds.

,,,,,, They do sound nice though.

Your underhood temps will really increase with header use. This can easily lead to vapor lock issues, if run'n a carb.

Just to go along with the header thread may I suggest a gasket that will help with gaskets leaking, cracking, blowing out, etc. I started using REMFLEX header and exhaust gaskets a few years back and will never use anything else.Check them out.Won't crack or blow out and they are REUSABLE.Yes they can be re used. Initial cost is higher but well worth it.
Applications for almost any engine or collector size and shape.
REMFLEX the only way. mike

I'll have to look into a set for my CJ/AMC 360.

Thanks for the advise, not my first jeep with side headers. I am aware of the cost involved and everything else you talked about. Not eveyone shares the same tastes. Open forums ae like a box of chocolates, never know what your going to get. I learn alot from forums and appreciate the knowledge. Just have to muddle through the extra advise at times.

Fair enough. Some folks like headers some don't, I'm a little bit in the middle. You seem to know the ground on which you walk, didn't intend to "muddle" your question up with advice.

Nivensid-

We have no way of knowing what your experience is, do we? ;) Perhaps, if you had said "not my first jeep with side headers" in your first post. I'm sure posts would have gone another direction. I know my reply would have.
Respectfully,
LG
