ok so not really sure where to place this so ill start here.

i recently acquired a Dana 44 out of a 81 or 82 CJ7 (originally in a scout i think) im pretty sure its a narrow track (i need a wide track)

im not to sure what to look for on this axle to confirm my suspicion to identify its origins? if it is indeed a narrow track it is of no use to me as the only jeep i own with narrow track is my wifes 79 CJ7 but it has the quadra trac system so the rear is offset. so my question is whats this worth? and is there any interest?

Unless it was cut down it cannot be a narrow track Scout axle. The scout axles are 6 inches wider than the Jeep axles as I have a set in My CJ8 . Is there an ID tag attached to a bolt on the diff cover? This will usually ID what the unit is.

1id tag.webp

nope tage is gone wms-wms is about 52 1/2"
cover has dana stamped in below that it says
39015
126 7
REV L
08 27 92

the ear to the housing has C-3528

then ethier 96 r 9S is stamped just behind the yoke

Another thing you might want to check for is the spline count on the axles. Like it will be either a 19 or 30 spline.

what will that tell me? its still outside at the moment but ill check that tomorrow if i get a chance to open it up

appreciate it im having a hard trying to figure out what this axle came out of

based on the link you provided and the measurements i believe this axle came out of a jeepster commando.

it has 30 spline shafts
50 1/2" wheel-wheel
36" spring perch to perch

any idea what this maybe worth as i would need to run spacers in my jeep to match the front and im not going through all of that.

it has an open diff and 4.11 gearing

Instead of spacers you could use the wider deep set 10" wheels to support a set of 33" or 35" tires. I do think putting it on the market would provide a good return. I would not know what to ask for it though.

What I do is check Craigslist and see what similar parts are selling for.

I think I'm going to sell it I don't want to have to use 2 different wheels as I have a wide Trac Dana 30 in the front

The average price I have seen around my area for a good 44 rear axle is anywhere from $450-$600. I paid $400 for mine and it needed a full rebuild but the Scout axles were very hot sellers at the time so I got a good deal.
