Hi gang, not 8 months ago I was considering a new set of CORK valve cover gaskets for my 360 in 'Black Betty' there were 3 types listed on the NAPA Online site. Two of which were "Perma-seal" and one, traditional cork.
So went down to NAPA yesterday and they couldn't seem to find 'em. Even checking their recent Fel Pro book and no cork valve cover gaskets exist.
Visiting the Federal Mogul site this morning yielded the same lack of this product.
Can anyone tell me if this is merely an oversight, or has Fel Pro turned their back on CORK for AMC 8's?
Thanks and a lift of the lynch lid.

Gus

Gus, Don't know if this would relate to a AMC,but on my 225 v-6's I have been using cork v c gaskets from victor-reinz .Purchased from TA PERF. online. I tried NAPA localy and they were no help. Fel-pro has the rubber ones which i do not prefer.I believe Autozone sells victor-reinz and may be able to get cork gaskets in that brand for your AMC application.
BTW greetings from Salem.Still "jeep'in" after all these years. Mike:)

Good to know, thanks Mike!
I've tried to adhere to Fel Pro as I've been impressed with their quality (be it a fallalcy or not), and been resistant to trying other makers but at this point it's beginning to look like I have no other choice.

I'm pretty sure mine was a fel pro cork gasket that I picked up from Napa. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I threw the box away :(

I hear ya Skud, mine came from NAPA too, not 8 months ago. I still have the box somewheres' with one spare gasket. I moved back in June and my garage is still a mess, what with working 7 days a week.

It's gotten a little better since this photo though!

I feel your pain....I need to build about a 100' X 200' barn. Then I might have enough room, but somehow I'm sure it would end up looking like my current garage and barn!:(

Hey I think I see a Jeep in there It's like where's Waldo :D

:D Or like Where's 'Black Betty'?

I've cleared out enough of the garage since that photo to go wheelin' but owing to a couple of oil leaks I haven't been out in a few months in her.

So, CJ Those Perma Torque's are Fel Pro aren't they? Back in the 80's I tried rubber gaskets but in attempt to get 'em to seal, I wound up bending the lip of the valve cover, making for more leakage

Got a pn for those?

I always use the gaskets with the metal sandwiched between 2 layers of cork or rubber or silicone the metal gives it stiffness so it does not squish out when compressed also avoid the urge 2 over torque and you should be fine
