I bought new stock fenders for my CJ7 , painted them and then bolted them on when I put my jeep back together after a frame off restoration but they don't fit right. They pointed down in the front and I had to use long bolts and really crank on them to get them to meet up to the grill. The front end is extremely tight from the pressure. One fender bent slightly and now the front end is crooked. See the attached photo to see it leaning right. I have 1" body mounts all around. Any idea what I did wrong?

Try adding, Or taking away from the front mount under the grill to line things up.

You have to get creative for installing aftermarket body parts and put up with the results. If you spend much time off road the spot welds will also break from the flex.

Don't stress those fenders, they will not only bend, they will tear. My '75 had this problem, I ended up lifting the body with an extra puck (~5/8").

The 'joys' of aftermarket body parts.
Always pre-fit before painting--
You sure the frame isn't the cause of the body lean?

I bought a set for the 440 jeep that were so bad I gave them away. The fit wouldn't fit, they were crooked and it looked like the ups man kicked them here all the way from Illinois.

I had to create a new profile. I was locked out of my other one for some unknown reason. I changed to a 1/2" mount under the grill and it helped some. I guess I will need to go to 1 1/2" mounts under the body ugh!

My drivers side fender is bent up and I can't seem to bend it back in place. I may have to buy and paint another one unless someone can advise me otherwise

Yeah I ended up buying a used original cj set for 100.00 and everything was fine again. Gotta love madeinchinabay

Before they are painted the fenders could be modified. A relief cut along the body bolt flange filled with sheet metal and welded wouldn't be all that difficult to accomplish. Could even be fun to do.

You don't really need to go with a full 1 1/2" body mount. You can simply add another stock puck (yes stack'em). Rob said that it's a fairly common thing to do.

Good idea. Thanks!

Come to think of it I might do the same with mine and remove the body lift. The lift is small, but does cause some problems with a few small items like the gas cap being drawn tight to the body making cap removal a bit of a problem. I did buy a set of stock fenders and have been waiting for other mods to be finished before moving forward with stripping, dent removal and painting. Yeah, thank you for starting my thought process along these lines.
