I don't get it. None of this makes any sense. I didn't know they still made jeeps. The last new one I saw was in the late eighties.

Welcome to the deliberate, engineered collapse of our country. I hope all you good folks out there are wide awake and getting ready, because it's about to get truly ugly.

Here is a story tonight, 29 Oct., from Breitbart News, adding a bit of detail and a bit of political maneuvering to the Jeep move. In the posted story, an announcement of PART of Jeep production going to China is anticipated as early as 30 October.

Obama Campaign Scrambles to Discredit Romney's 'Jeep' Ad

I'm surprised Chrysler has survived purchasing Jeep.

RIP Willys, Kaiser, AMC.

It was the revamped 1984 & up Cherokee being such a hit that made Chrysler want Jeep. AMC had bleed heavily over their marvelous wonders such as the Gremlin and Hornet, and of course let’s not forget the Pacer. (Oh Boy!) AMC just wanted out of the consumer market to focus their efforts on government contracts where they could be profitable. It had been a tough decade or so for all the auto makers with tightening emissions and safety regulations, not to mention the Iranian oil embargo; all of which contributed to the end of the muscle cars era as we knew it.

We the people of America gave Fiat 1.5 Billion (yes with a B) dollars for “management expertise” and allowed them to gain control of Chrysler. (Most likely we borrowed the 1.5 Billion from China but that’s another discussion.) Nothing political about this, just the facts; Obama called the shots as it was his announced intentions to rid us of the SUV and Fiat was Obama’s pathway to smaller cars in America. Also if you recall with the government takeover of GM it was announced that GM was going to move to electric cars only; of course this turned out to not be practical without a large loss of market share and we haven’t heard much talk of it in the last two years.

It is odd (maybe a better word could be used rather than “odd”) the destiny of the little vehicle that contributed so much to the defeat of Germany and Italy in WWII has been controlled by both of those countries over the last 20 years or so. Heck even the French had their fingers in the pie for a while before Daimler. Obama states he does what he says and in the case of the American auto industry I’d have to agree but now we know the end result of his actions, an Italian Jeep.

I should have added a couple of things to the above post. When I referred to “loss of market share” with GM converting to electric only technology I should have added to read: Loss of Jobs. Of course if one looses market share labor is cut. In this case with the Unions being the beneficiary of the Obama version of a bankruptcy that wiped out of the “secured” creditors (legality of this in great question) the Unions most certainly were the driving force behind the course correction back to vehicles people will actually buy. Of course this would be their prerogative as a (or is it “the”) major stockholder of GM.

The other thing that I should have included is not only the Italian Jeep but the Chinese Jeep as well from the recent articles. We should all thank Mr. Obama for saving our jobs so that someone else could take them away to give to others, leaving no blood on his hands, and that is not even addressing the loss of an American institution, Jeep. And don’t forget we gave Fiat 1.5 Billion dollars to do it!

And if you do find yourself leaning to the left on election day do the rest of us a favor...

Straighten the :censored: up!!!!

You are absolutely correct. But in this case they're talking about the Jeep company and their products, not the actual Jeep vehicle.

Not only are the factory assemblers at risk but all the suppliers to those assembly lines. As well as the folks selling lunch to all those workers. It really trickles down.

Sergio is only concerned with Italian manufacturing as he is already a giant there.

Not good.

From what I heard only Italian jeep manufacturing was moving to china not us jeep.

Check the link on the first post.

I re-read the Bloomberg article from the first post it is clear that Marchionne is considering using Jeep to pull Fiat out of the fire in Europe. The European economy is in shambles, worse than we have it here and in order to keep the Fiat factory alive Marchionne is working with the Italian government on tax incentives to build Wranglers in Italy then import them back to North America. With proper incentives it may be cheaper to build them in Italy than the USA. I’m not trying to union bash here but there has to be a balance between a fair living wage and what strangles the goose; when we reach the point that it is cheaper to do it in Europe than in the USA we have a problem. I guess with the 1.5 billion dollar gift we gave to Fiat someone should have gotten a little security that the jobs would stay here.

In the article in The Hill, Marchionne admits that he is looking at building a factory in Asia in order to meet demand for the expanding market. He didn’t say China but “Asia”. Close enough for me and in my mind I can’t rule out that the choice of words is intentional until after the election.

Right the expanding Asian market I.E. china. In his view manufacturing the product in the country your selling it in makes good financial sense. One point of view is that those jeeps could be made here and shipped there, I guess we should be happy that our jeeps are still made here ....for now.
