I am flat towing my stock 78 CJ5 behind motor home with ign unlocked front hubs locked Transmission in n and transfer in n. Speedo is still loging miles as if I was driving it. Anybody know why?

It's because the rear drive shaft and output shaft of your TCase is turning. The speedometer is on the rear output of your tcase. The only way to prevent any movement of the TCase gears it to remove the rear drive shaft (or add locking hubs to the rear).
If you are towing very far you may want to remove the rear drive shaft.

^ concur.

Anytime I flat to my CJ I remove both drive shafts.

Or, you could just unscrew the speedometer from the Transmission . Very easy.

Why would you remove both driveshafts??:confused::confused:

Something I read on Novak's website;

Because of its more direct method of drive in high range, it tends to wear less than the 18. However, it is recommended that the rear drive shaft be disconnected and the front axle hubs disengaged for flat towing of any distance.

So, before I got rid of the automatic front hubs, I disconnected the front drive shaft as well. Now, even though I have lockout front hubs, it's just something I do anyway while I'm under there.
