Frame repair project

Well I bought all new front and rear shackle and main eye bushings a few weeks ago and got the fronts all done. So then I tore into the rears and when I did I found some frame rot that I didn't know was there so here is the beginning of my repair. This is a shot of the rust rot after I dug at it a little with a hammer and screwdriver .

So this is a shot after I got the tank , rear cross member and and shackle hangers off.

Next is after I got the frame cut off and cleaned up ready for the new steel to be fit.

Here is the new steel fit and ready to tack into place and start welding. Also I bought the new rocky road grease-able rear hangers with the bigger 1 1/4" bushings. These thing are hd and mount with three bolts one in the front and two in the rear. I had a local machine shop bend me a 3/16 " thick u channel then I fit and cut and formed the bend up. I also welded a plate inside the bottom to beef it up where the hangers mount. Then I drilled the section for hanger to mount and welded nuts inside the frame for the hanger bolts to mount.
I have both sides to this point and ready to weld. Pretty good days work. Hope to get more done in the week and will share some more pictures as I progress.

That's a common problem with the old CJs. Looks like you're fixing it right. Good job.

Very nice job.I like the way you tackled that problem .
Here on the West Coast(left coast) we just don't see that type of rust damage.I have a lot of admiration for you guys fixing these older CJ's.
