Okay guys, let me know if I'm alone in this problem or if I'm SOL. My '79 CJ7 has a passenger side fuel filler, and I took off the tank and filler hose to replace it. Upon dropping the tank I discovered it had been rigged to make the fuel filler line longer. Upon ordering a new Crown fuel filler hose and new tank, I too discovered that the stock replacement hose was not long enough.

Has anyone run into this problem? The main line is 7/8" inside diameter and has a pre-bent 90* angle. I also cannot find 7/8" ID fuel-grade hose at auto zone, oreilly, or napa.

Don't expect that crown part to last long.
You can make the line longer with a section of metal tubing(EMT)spliced in.

Lumpy has a great suggestion there. Then you could still use the Crown hose. On my CJ, I installed the fuel filler on the passenger side, this allowed me to use a straight piece of fuel filler and vent hose. It also fills the tank easier. Even using a quality hose that I got from an industrial outfit. The way I see it these are not really reusable items as they will eventually dry out and harden.

The 7/8" line is the vent line though...but regardless, the whole filler/vent system is a real PIA. I just had my tank down to fix a leak, wire the gauge, install an electric pump and bypass regulator and wire it all up and NOTHING was more difficult than putting the tank back up and making the filler and vent hoses go back on.

If you can add even an inch to both lines you'll have saved yourself a lot of time on this and subsequent installs.
