On my CJ (I have owned it for 5 days) the previous owner has replaced the front shackles and shackle bushings with some aftermarket heavy duty pieces. He also has a jks trac bar installed. However I do not know why it is there. The trac bar was installed he said to help the steering at road speed. I do not see a trac bar listed for a cj so I think it was installed with some universal tabs. One side is has welded tabs on the right inside frame rail under the motor mount and the other side has tabs welded on the top of the "C" on the left side of axle. All the work was done verywell. The problem with my jeep is it does have some whiteknuckle characteristics when driving. I have checked all the front end and found the rear axle bushings bad and rotted as well as the front spring eye bushings at the rear of the spring. When you throttle on it hard (has a AMC 304 /3 speed) it will go in one direction and then left off it will change direction. I believe from the track bar rising and lowering moving the axle side to side. Let me know what you think. I hope I am on the right track.

I really need some pix of this. I've never seen anyone install a trak bar on a cj.

I would replace the wore out bushings with some poly ones.

Old Dog I already took the trac bar off before reading this post. We will see how it drives thursday. While I had it jacked up I checked the axke shaft ujoints, ball joints, and other front end components. I have one loose tie rod end. Very minor. Then of course the spring bushings. i will replace those and the tie rod end and see how it does.
