I recently acquired an '81 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l IL6. The other day my vapor canister nipple that connects to the return line broke. I need to figure out how to fix this with either replacing it with a different canister or re-routing the return line. Can the return line connect to the breather to avoid replacing the canister? I have read other posts but havent been able to find anything about the return line. Please help, Im new to fuel systems.

I think it depends on which nipple you're talking about. If its the one that provides vac to the entire canister then you probably want to replace the canister. If you plan any carb swap in the future, you may want to do it all at once. Some carbs have bowl vapor evacuation that requires a nipple also.

The carb bowl vent connection might work. Since it is plastic, possibly you could drill & tap for a new fitting to install, or maybe just drill and screw in a fitting. A replacement canister would be a Standard CP3045, which also goes by other numbers, if you can't get a junkyard one.
