Fuel Pump Noisy

I got a 84 CJ7 that has fuel injection on it. There is a brand new fuel pump on it but it makes a loud, like real loud humming buzzing noise. It's mounted in the horizontal position under the pasenger side to the side of the frame. Anybody got any ideas? It's pretty annoying.

You should be able to hear the pump come on for 2 seconds and shut off when you turn the key to the on position, this is normal. If it is warm to the touch, after running for awhile, then it is not getting enough fuel, and will not last long. check your fuel pressure. Spare pumps for externally mounted types are a good idea, btw.

I don't think it is turning off at all. It just stays on!

O.K., I guess that could work. It is advised with this type of pump and its location, to wrap insulation around it to help cut down vibration. I read abould one fellow who had his inside a pvc tube to cut back on noise. Another good thing to do is set it up so it can be easily replaced on the trail, for when that happens, plus carrying the tools and parts to do this.

The pump will stay on while the engine is running, it's when you just turn the key to run right before you start it that the pump will pressurize then turn off. If the pump doesnt shut off while the engine isn't running, you've got a problem. On my 8 the pump is mounted on the crossmember right in front of the tank, and I can hear it humming while running along at slow speeds with the top off. Cant hear it with top on.

Thanks guys. I'll have to dig into it some more. Just got the jeep a couple days ago. Sounds like I got a Problem. I'll post back in a couple days let you know if I found anything or if I found a way to fix it.
