:)Count the teeth again...........normal factory non option gears are 3.73:1 with a manual Transmission . and 3.08:1 with and auto.
:D:D:D:D

Yup. Those are 2.73s.

Jeep Axle: AMC 20

Scroll to the letter codes. Your AMC20 , if that's what you have, will have a D or DD stamped on it. That would indicate a 2.73 gear. I hated that in mine. Went to 4.10s  Good luck :chug:

Edit, saw you have a Dana 44 . Sorry about that.
Jeep Axle: Dana 30
Jeep Axle: Dana 44

Those don't have simple letters stamped on them. You still have 2.73s though.

:)Diddy so did your Jeep start out with an Auto Transmission w/ the 2.73's?

Yep, most of the later 80's came with 2:73's for gas mileage, bad idea on jeeps part.:(

Yup they sure did. I have a set of wide tracs in the garage with the 2.73s. Cant give them away. The carriers are small and need to be changed out to get you to any worth while ratio. :(

I scrapped mine. Got 75 bucks for them. I have two more sets of 2.73s and one set of 3.31s left. Not worth much of anything even though one set of 2.73s even has one piece axle shafts.

Yea 2.73 was very common in the '86 cjs they were trying to get better gas mileage to please big brother.

2:73's in my all stock 8. Not great offroad, but fine on the highway. If I maintain 65-70mph the old girl has no problem getting 19mpg

looks like im going to be regearing then in the near future and also i found one out that the rear axle still had it tag on it what can those numbers tell me
