Get yourself a good book/manual that covers your year Jeep!
Swaps happen. My Jeep is an 86 with 6 bolt hubs ,a T-18 and Scout Dana 300 ford dist. cap and wires , YJ body and windshield frame. I know what I got but you may not.

also keep a copy of 4WD 4wheeldrive hardware www.4wd.com handy

You need to know things like this
CJ7 76-86
CJ5 55-71 short nose
CJ5 72-82 AMC
and so on.

There are wide track axles and narrow track what do you have?

Do you have a sugested book? I have no idea yet what I have but am excited to find out. I need other parts for this project but like you said I need to find out what I am starting with.
Could I have something stuck in the transition from CJ5 -CJ7 ?
I will go to the shop today and check things out, just got jeep yesterday, and try to identify something.

Jeep CJ Haynes repair manual
Jeep owners bible
Jeep CJ Rebulders manual
4wheelers bible

any good book store should have these.

A FSM (factory service manual) is great to have around also.
If you look around on line sometimes you can find free downloads.:chug:

What about "The Jeep Bible" written by Granville King? Does anybody have this or read this? I've heard this is a good book to have but I was wondering if anybody has any experience with it.

Yes that too. But even keeping a 4WD catalog near bye will help with years and part #'s

I run early jeeps, 71 and older
I find a very valuable book is the Omix Ada catalog

I will second the swap thing, you need to realise a lot of things got updated before you got the jeep so you need to identify parts. You get better with experience but at first you can pull your hair out.
