 Bought my jeep for 600, it is pretty much in pieces but its all there except the title. I was aware of this when I bought it but wasn't aware how difficult it would be to get it registered to me.
It was last registered in 1988, the DMV told me that much but they wouldn't give me the persons name or adress. A title office who's # I got from the State Police's website said that I may be able to get a judge or J.O.P. to help me.
Does any one have any experience with this. Should I just use this jeep for parts and buy one with a title?

If it's anything like Ca. you may be in for some pain in your wallet even if you can pull it off. My 3B I bought from a freind who had unknown to me let the title/registration become some 5 years delinquent, Was no problem to register back in my name after I paid all the past dues and fines that totalled more than I want to remember.:(

If its was registered in the persons name you bought it from, they will have to apply for a lost title, if it wasnt registered to the seller I think you can get a bonded title, ask your ins co. about it. shouldnt be too hard.

Thanks
Never heard of a bonded title, but i,m sure going to check with my ins co. What have I got to lose and I was under the assumption that even though it was a 78 it had to be registered but i,ll inquire about that too.

thanks to all of you :chug:

I've been looking for a jeep for a couple months now and had no luck, however an old high school friend who is a car guy told me that doing a rolling chassis and building from scratch ( which from your post I assume you will be doing)the title is tied mainly to the body V.I.N and that you can apply for a reconstructed title in PA at least So you are basically registering a new vehicle such as kit car builders do. Might be worth looking into your state probably has provisions for these types of circumstances.

Here is a list of title bonding company s in LA. See what they charge.
Louisiana Electronic Lien & Title Services

Some states will let you do a title 42, which I understand is basically registering it in your name for a period of years with no title. after that period, you get a title, UNLESS the original titled owner shows up and wants his truck back. Then you lose all the work you've done to it.

Or you might be able to do a mechanics lien and sell it for parts. But there is some laws in there that work to your disadvantage.

Basically every state is different. Heck, pretty much every town/precinct/county is different!
