Mike down at the salvage yard is a gun nut, So I took my Glock model 22 40 cal to show him and the next thing I know is I'm leaving with a Dana 44 from a Rubicon TJ w/4:10 gears and alloy axles. here is the axle
0531091419.webp

and another
0531091419a.webp

and last but not least Momma will have disc brakes in the rear
0531091420.webp

Only thing wrong with it is a crack in the upper rear control arm bracket. I can change out the front gears to match the front and replace bracket for under $300.00 bucks. well worth it to not have to worry about the D35 and 33" tires.

I'm confused, you just showed him your glock, and he gave you an axle? Of did you have to trade him your glock for the axle?

Yes traded my Glock that was sitting in the safe for three years collecting dust ( it's the same model as our duty carry).

Well heck, if it was just sitting in the safe collecting dust, that was a great trade!

I have way too many guns anyways I'll never miss it, question do I need a new Low ratio carrier going from a 3:73 to a 4:10? because I thought from the 3:73 and above you didn't. besides if I had shown him my Glock and he gave me the axle wouldn't that be armed robbery? J/K

I don't know about your gear question. But yes, I do believe if you showed him the gun and then walked off with the axle it could be considered armed robbery, or just a great way to get Jeep parts

at rustys offroad when trying to get prices on the 4:10 for the front diff it keeps telling me that I need a new gear carrier for the lower (higher) gearset.
I was always under the impression that anything over I believe a 3:55 didn't need a different carrier.

All ring and pinions that are 3.73 and lower use the same carrier
and
all ring and pinions that are 3.92 and up use the same carrier.

To go from a 3.73 to 4.10 (or 4.10 to 3.73) you will need to change carriers.

Roger that CJ and will be going 3.73 to 4.10 with 33" tires. best place to get gears, carriers, and install kits?
