Where can a fat guy find a cheap steering wheel that wont rub the gut?
12in or 10in

Define cheap. confused-smiley-17428.webp

Now heres a subject I can use. I have wanted to replace my original wheel but get overwhelmed at the choices available and give up on the idea.

CheepJeep knows cheep steering wheels.
Lots of good cheep steering wheels on ebay.
I like my OEM wheel with 3 spokes and holes in the spokes. Kinda like this:

Not to get off the topic, but Sasquach you really should wear your seat belt.

No power steering but I dont mind using a little muscle if the wheel dont rub my gut.

I will look into the grant wheels on Ebay.
What bolt size do Jeeps have on the main blot and what is the measuerment between the 3 small holes.I have a 10in wheel but the bolt patern is too small and so is the center hole.

If you go with a Grant steering wheel you will also need their installation kit #3196. This will allow you to install the wheel on the steering shaft and get the horn working too. Check out this link:

:driving:
How does it adapt the wheel to the column? What I mean is the aftermarket wheel I have has too small of hole and the bolt pattern is too small.Does the Grant wheel have bigger holes or is it the same as what I have?If they are the same I can just get the kit.Not worried about the horn it is already on a seperate button on the dash

If the aftermarket wheel you have has a hole that is too small I don't think it will work. If you get a Grant wheel and this adapter kit then the part in the lower right will hold the wheel to the shaft:

Do you know who makes the aftermarket wheel you have? If so go to their web site. If you don't know it might be hard to fit a random steering wheel on your jeep.
The Grant installation kit fits these jeeps: 1976-1986 CJ, 1987-1995 Wrangler YJ, 1984-1995 Cherokee XJ
I am willing to bet if you went to a junk yard and found any steering wheel from one of the above jeeps then it should fit your CJ.

Measured my stock one and it is 16in.The 10in I have will be too small.Think I will get a 13in Grant and mounting kit.

The kit is a sizing/spacing collar that make a smooth transition from the stock column to the Grant wheel. The Grant wheel itself has the correct holes and spline count to fit the column. Sadly it doesn't work with a stock horn setup.

I say sady because I pulled a Grant to return to a stock AMC wheel and had to pick up the horn repair pieces. Thankfully it's all GM common and available cheap at NAPA.

i have manual steering and its reelly not the bad as long as the jeep is moving.

yes, but do you have a stock steering wheel?
CheepJeep has an excellent point.

just remember with a smaller steering wheel and manual steering that thing is going to be a beast to turn. i'm holding out for power steering then i'll replace mine (i'm a fat boy to)

No problem is ever as easy as it looks. Giving up wheel diameter/leverage would be a problem for me and take a lot of fun out of it. I heartily recommend a steering column change out to a tilt wheel. Give that belly room to grow. It is not that hard and, if you are lucky enough to find a wheel with a key, it is possible to do it for less than $100. Problem solved, forever.
I bet you will be a lot happier with a tilt column than a little steering wheel.:D

Oh yea, you also get to keep the horn and turn signals cancel themselves, you get high and low beam on the wheel and if your real clever you can have intermittent wipers. Not to mention that the wheel still says Jeep.

There you go. It took IOPort to get us to think outside the box. A tilt steering column will get that wheel out of the way and still allow you to use a big steering wheel.

I sold my original CJ7 steering wheel for about $30 on craigslist and used that money and a bit more and baught myself a grant wheel. I dont remember the exact model but honestly grant has some nice steering wheels that will keep the old jeep look alive
