Hello ya'll! Hope everyone is well. I've got a question about H1 wheels on an 85 CJ7 . I can purchase 24 bolt 16.5 8x6.5 military humvee wheels and tires pretty cheap. I've been looking around and understand I would need to get 2 piece wheels adapters for this to bolt up. I've read about getting the wheel "re-centered" and was curious if I did not do that, what would it look like given the H1 wheel offset/backspacing. Basically the reason for this would be to get beadlocks and cheap replacement 37's when I need. So, to recap. What would bolting on the adapter and bolting the wheels on look like and function when I'm done? Thanks for reading and responding.:)

Just an FYI-If you have to deal with vehicle inspections in your state. Make sure those wheels and tires are DOT legal for the highway.
Military vehicles are exempt. But those parts on a personal passenger vehicle may not.
Your push'n it hard for a stock drive-line. What R&P are you run'n now? Do you have the one piece axles in the 20 rear?
Good luck,
LG

If your not recentering you will not clear your knuckle steering arms. You will be rubbing the springs/frame on a stock 30 as well. I'd recommend recentering

I didn't recenter, but I'm at 65" and I don't come close to the springs on full turn. I cut the knuckle arms to clear the rims, and added beef as well.

I don't have vehicle inspections here Lumpy. So I should be good there. I am running an AMC20 with 1 piece 4340 chrome molly axles, Detroit locker, Yukon 4.10 gears, and also an SBC disc brake conversion. Posi, will it scrub even with the 2" spaced wheel adapter? What exactly is recentering? Is that cutting the center of the wheel off and moving towards the inside of the wheel?

4:10 and 37's is still a lot of torque load on the driveline. Have you thought about a re-gear? Heck-I run 4:88 w/33's. Think'n 5 something maybe.
Posi-That is some fine work there! :notworthy: About how many hours/beers did that take?

4.10's with my 35's is amazing. Plenty of power and torque. The 37's and those heavy wheels and run flats will slow me down a bit but I ok with that.

They have 7" of BS, that's a lot of sucking in. Can you borrow a wheel to test fit?

Thanks, 12 pack each side : )

Unfortunately not. Was going to see if anyone else has done it thus way before I bought everything. Going to cost a total of $850 including 4 wheels 4 tires and the adapters/spacers

Get out the tape measure. So your looking at 5" BS with your spacers.

Will you have enough brake, even with the discs?
Sounds like a great wrench'n project.
How about post'n up as you do this?

I'll post up if I decide to do it.

I know posi :) I was wanting a different look, cheaper replacements, and great functionality. In the end, if it slows my accel too much or I dont like them, I could sell eveything off for what I paid. Just wasn't sure how it would look with just the spacers/adapters. I knew the bs was not ideal but wanted to know about clearance issues and if anyone had done it before like I was going to.

However, to fit the rims the knuckle steering arm will need to be cut down. This means you would need to swap out for Dana 30 knuckles for Dana 44 flat top knuckles to go high steer. Dana 30 and Dana 44 knuckles will interchange on 30 and 44 axles

There may be a chance the Dana 30 knuckles are small enough to fit inside the rims, I know the d60 knuckles do not.

Cheaper, functionality , spacers/ adapters clearance issues and acceleration? Are all the wrong reasons for wheel replacements...........

The real key to wheel replacement is steering geometry period. Things like steering axis inclination, contact patch and scrub radius............google those items up and then you will get a better understanding of why there is offset or back spacing in factory wheels.

Most folks in a Jeep gravitate towards a deep dish wheel with negative offset to gain clearance inside for larger tires.........while not fully understanding how that ultimately accelerates tire and suspension wear..........

:D:D:D:D

Tarry-You left out axle and wheel bearing wear..........
Plus the extra load on the spindle.

Yep all of the above.................
