Putting the dash back together again.
Put the new cables in expecting them to lock in solid. Nope. Didn't fit tight. So thought I could spread the "legs" on the inside apart. Nope. They were not quit wide enough to fit all the way away from the hole.
So I gave them a 90 degree turn, since the hole is a rectangle and the "legs" were too narrow for the long side and they tightened up as they should. This felt as thought it was the way they should be installed. Thought that was the solution.
NOT! Since they were turned 90 degrees, the end that attaches to the levers needed to be twisted to fit. This turns the wire, which in turn makes them really, really hard to move. Too hard to be useful and definitely too hard for the knobs to remain attached. Solution for the knobs is a 3/32 drill bit and roll pin.
They won't come off again.
Now, a week or so before installing I lubed them up with some chain and cable lube. Made them slide (uninstalled) with ease, more than with no lube straight out of the box. Were the same condition when I installed them.
So here's the question, anybody replaced the cables recently ? Did they fit as they should (push in and lock tight)? What brand did you use ? Can't remember whether these were Crowne or Omix.
