I have a 1979 CJ5 AMC 304 . Im trying to figure out how to get my brake lights working. I have running lights, and turn signals but no brake lights. Im looking at wiring diagrams and just confusing myself. so if anyone can help me it will be greatly appricated. My bulbs are good and no known ground issues so far.

Its been awhile since Ive messed with a CJ brake light problem. Have you checked for a blown fuse?

If you look under the dash and follow the pedal up you should find a switch that connects to the bracket and contacts the pedal when the brakes are applied. Depress the switch and have some one look for lights. if you dont get lights pull the plug off the switch under the dash thats attached to the pedal bracket. Insert a wire into each side to jump the contacts. That should give you brakes. If you do all of that and still cant figure it out start light it on fire.

the switch under the dash should have power to one side all the time. Use a multi meter or test light to test the 2 wires and see if theres any power. If its dead there you have a issue between the switch and the fuse block. if you have power going in and coming out (probe the wires with the brake pedal depressed) then you have a issue in the wiring after the pedal.

This is working off old memories of cj wiring so I may be off a little bit but thats the basic run down of brake wiring. I dont think there is a brake light relay.

Good luck
