I have no idea what type of setup this is since I have not looked into crawling setups. I do know I want to make this jeep road worthy and would be open to some suggestions on how to return this rear setup back to normal and what I would need to do that. Thanks yall

From that one shot I cannot tell you what is needed to return the suspension back to stock. Need pictures of the spring mounts, shackles, perches, shock mount and any others you can supply.

from that one pic it looks like the PO just reloacated the shocks, BUT as cj said we need more pic to be sure.

And from what I can tell it is just the shocks that have been moved. It does have some aftermarket bent shackles, but mounting points for the leafs are still in stock location

I know the pics arent great but I took them with my phone and was trying not to mess my clothes up today. Do any of yall have a pic of the stock shock mounting points?

OMG , How do people dream this stuff up? The welded to the axle tube bottom mount is NOT correct and should be on a stud that is part of the lower spring plate. The upper bar mount is NOT correct and the tube looks to be welded onto the stock upper shock mount, this mount would have a stud on it also and with some luck is still there hiding inside the tube.

What he said ^^^

what the guy did was extreme, but his intentions were good
if you want proper articulation for a jeep the Shocks should be on the angle of the arc of travel for the Axle, His is way past that and the way it is done is very amateurish.

actually deserves to be in the "the OP did What?" thread

what you need to do is get new lower and upper shock mounts and do some welding

now, if you would fill out the info in your profile, so that we can see what year and Model Jeep we are dealing with, then we could get you any measurements that are needed, so please go fill out the year, model and axles you jeep has so it is in the profile and shows up under your name in the post.

OH by the way that is a suspension named

Done by idiot who flunked math class having no idea about structural loads, reinforcement, or geometry of moving parts suspension

that cross piece he put in there will bend on road, much less first bump off road, and he has them both at the weakest section, double so it is twice as bad, he has no reinforcement for the cross member and the way he welded on the studs on the axle I wonder if he has damaged any bearing surface with heat.

I have seen some no clued fabs in my day, but that takes the cake. The intention is good, but after that he had no clue. Tell him to step away from that welder and get a job as a politician, he would be spreading less :censored:.

Not to mention the valving of the shocks. There are lots of things that go into those calculations as weight, travel etc.

Quick qeomety thought will tell you that since the shocks are no longer compressing along the suspension path (looks to be relocated at 45 deg) that the travel of the shock is reduced by 30%. This is because the stroke is reduced by the same amount (sin of 45=.70711)? So you need to rethink shock dampening or even better... Leave a suspension alone if you have no idea wtf you are doing!

There looks to be very little in the way of "calculations" in this mod.

Sorry if it sounds like were coming down on you lloydwithAF, we would like nothing more than to see this made right and honestly looks to be an easy undo. Grind off the junk PO welded onto the axle tube and cut off the upper tube being carefull to not cut off the stud inside if it does still exist, get yourself some new spring plates with shock mounts as well as some new shocks and all is good.

It's filled out... but to make it a little easier 1983cj7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ,T-5 ,Dana 300 AMC20 . I am going to an ax15 when it goes back together

Well the PO bodywork skills were just as impressive...chicken wire, house screws, rivets, pounds of bondo....I already fixed that problem though lol

I love the bondo on hardware cloth patches

this is a big bonus, you see when you post and we want to help, the info is there. It makes for quick and correct answers
to bad you are not in Socal, I have an AX15 for sale with bell housing and new slave cylinder

I have mine rebuilt with a new slave clutch and resurfaced flywheel sitting on the garage floor begging to be put in
