The PO put these on and I notice significant sway from them when steering (power steering) thought these were a "heavy duty" style but I could be wrong lol also are these "lift" shackles? Thanks gang!

I did attempt to tighten them up a little, the top bolts were able to go at least 4-5 threads tighter, the bottoms were pretty snug, got half a turn tighter. The middle support with the brace was tight and the bolts through the "elbow" were snuffs up a little but I assume they shouldn't be "tight" as it would start bending the shakle

If you tighten the bolts too tight, they wont pivot allow movement and the Jeep will ride like a tank.
You should check the manual and tighten them to specs.
Just an FYI.

Those are called tow shackles. I'm not sure how you hook them up to tow the Jeep with. I guess that front bolt may hook to a tow bar.

They look like tow shackles to me.
Stock ones are 3" center of bolt to center of bolt, so as an example if yours are 5" than they would be a 1" lift.

No manual on these, jeep came with them....didn't "over" do it but they were loose.....however with that being said they still sway...

Yeah from what I've seen the tow shackles have a removable pin kinda system, these have bolts....

Any opinions on better shackles that don't have a lot of side to side sway?

Don't need any "lift" from the shackles as it has the 2" wide yj 2.5" lift black diamond springs

Do you have 2" hangers on the frame? Also lift springs can be part of a package that includes longer than stock shackles.
The tow shackles can be a problem because they may interfere with spring travel not allowing full shackel swing.

the part number onthe spring list them as the 2.5" yj black diamond lift springs...they are 2" wide. and the hangers are also 2" I believe...can remeasure to check

Sounds like I just need to pick up new shackles then...I have no need to flat tow, and would like to increase the stability of the steering....

Those are the same ones that came on my 7 when I bought it, they are the worst things I have ever had on my Jeeps, they don't flex, they make all kinds of noise at low speed turning(almost like the spring plates are loose), and they make my Jeep wander all over the road. Now I just need to get the darn Jeep to quite breaking stuff that makes it run so I can replace things I want to to improve it's streetability.

The side plates do look kinda thin, but have you looked at the bushings? They look compressed. So where is the play? Do you have spacers in the ID of the bushings? If you do, you can't over compress the bushings. If no spacer, you can over
Compress them.

3/8"x2" bar stock is easy to make your own.

Ok did some measuring while the rain stopped for a few minutes lol Looks like I might of found the problem

I'm in a similar all though not as bad a situation as you, I have 2-1/2" hangers and springs but the spring eye is 1-1/2" ID and uses a large bushing while the hanger eye is 1" ID and uses a smaller non greasable bushing. All should be well but the smaller bushing has a smaller shoulder and therefor a slightly narrower width, bottom line is it's not right so while shopping for the both of us :D I came across what I/we may need.
This gave me the idea and I just orderd some 1-1/2"ID tube and 2" square stock and will build my own so I can use the same size greasable bushings at each end. If your not up to welding them yourself I saw some Rocky Road hangers that use a larger bushing.
Nothings ever easy with a CJ.

Jeep CJ shackle / spring hanger greasable with bushings, grease

I bought a pair of these Shackles for my CJ7 . They are sold as a way to Tow the CJ. The front Pin is where the Tow Bar is supposed to attach.
I decided not to use them! I would easily sell or trade them for something useful since I Bolted a pair of Towing Brackets onto my Bumper (really hated to drill those holes in a perfectly good chrome Bumper!)
When I gt them they really looked cheap! so I decided to shelve them, probably should have returned them but I think that I used the Bushings and Pins during the first set of repairs.

LOL I have a flux core welder....I can add the gas kit to it....however I've not gotten any further than melting my name into my metal tools LOL I would so not trust my welding for anything this important

Anyone know of any simple bolt on kits...would of figured there would be something some where... worst case I'll just go back to CJ springs (not really a big deal for me as this is so not a DD)
