Hello,

I am doing my first complete overhaul of my stock AMC20 . I know they are not great axles but I am going for a restoration not a hardcore off road rig. Anyone have any suggestions about how to get the inner axle seals in the tubes without damaging them. I ordered the Crown seals and they appear a bit too big to actually fit. I lubed and greased them and the tubes and gently drove them in with an oversized socket through the opposing axle tube. I was careful to drive them equally but the thin metal deformed and would not go down the tube. I looked at some AM from Oriellys and they appear the same size.

Thanks

Measure where the installed seals are from the end of the axle tube.
Use a inverted socket or such to seat new ones to the same location.
Grease seal lips before installing axle.
Crown is China JUNK! :biggun:
Go to NAPA, and order there........

I have a '76, but it has a Dana 44 in the rear from a '75, so I'm not much help.

What is a huge help though, is a service manual. Just google it and get yourself a hard copy...it's worth its weight in gold if you plan on doing anything to your CJ.

Also, I stay away from part stores other than NAPA for anything with my CJ. Too often, anywhere else would look up the wrong part, or their system doesn't have the right info. NAPA has never let me down.

Somehow, I knew LG was going to beat me to the punch...
