So I just joined this site after reading all the great posts. I just bought a 78 CJ7 and love it. I ordered the addco 1 1/8" front sway bar and the quick connects for the 2" suspension lift on the jeep. I realized after ordering that I only have one bracket on my spring plate and I'm going to have to replace the spring plate with a 2 bracket. I also found out that I don't have the sway bar mounting brackets which may have never even been installed on the jeep. After hours upon hours of searching I have only found the mounting brackets on ebay and it is a used complete sway bar set with connects and mounts and sway bar for over $100 and very old and rusty. Does anyone know where I can find the sway bar mounts for sale or used? Or any other options? I have to have the mounts, right? Thank you!!!

Should have asked two weeks ago. I just scraped the anti-sway mounts that go on the frame. Is that what you are looking for?
I don't have anti-sway bars and they have been bolted to my frame for no reason for a couple of years.
Then the spring plates. Is this what you are looking for?

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have: the addco 1 1/8 sway bar, quick connects/disconnects w/ bushings, currenlty ordering the spring bracket just like the one listed above, currenlty ordering the sway pin that holds the quick connect and sway bar together. The only item I still need is the sway bar mount which attaches to the frame. The item Cj crawler thought I needed I do have already, but it is that component that attaches to the mount that I need. I can't find the mount anywhere, quadratec, 4x4 center, anywhere! I don't believe there is a manufacturer for them. I'm trying junk yard search centers now. Let me know if anyone knows where to find one or an easy way to make one that works. It is very unfortunate you tossed those but thanks for help!!

CJ Crawler, would the bracket like you listed work attaching directly to the frame without the factory mount. I have't seen one attached without the factory mount which drops the component you posted down from the frame about 1-3 inches from what i can tell from pictures i've looked at?

I would think those that CJCrawler was talking about would work. Like you say they are mounted up higher on the frame than the OEM mounts. You will want the anti-sway bar ends to be approximately horizontal when the CJ is on flat ground. If they aren't then you might be able to space them down with square tubing.

If you have a welder, cut off a bolt and weld it in just like the other side. Make sure if you buy plates you tell them how wide you springs are.

Sorry about the delay, but yes, they attach directly to the frame, underneath of where the Front shackle mounts to. Pretty simple to destruct, so I would have to assume that putting it back together would be the same. I didn't take any pics when I took mine off, but that is where they would go back on to.

Just bought an 85 cj and the sway bar bolts inside the frame on the driver side are rusted badly. Scared to take them out cause they might break off. Any suggestions? Has anyone ever drilled them out or replaced them? If so, how hard is it?

Try using heat to loosen them.

If not, take a strip of flat stock and make a nut plate to slip inside the frame.

Worst case use a hole saw to make a access hole and then weld it back in.

Good luck

I have a couple sets of the sway bar frame mounts if you all need them...Email me at the address below

Thanks. Was thinking about drilling them out, covering the area with POR 15 then placing a new bolt and nut in it's place. What do you think and will I need to clamp the sway bar mount down before I take out the bolts? Don't wanrpt it moving

I'd just remove the end links and the bar to get it out of the way. Then drill them out.

Beezer I was able to get a lock washer and bolt in a hloe close and get them to fall into place not really that bad a job I used a wire and magnet. My frame nut bust off so I had to fix.

Anyone know if you have to take intake manifold off to replace stock exhaust manifold on a 85 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ?

There are some bolts that hold on both the intake and exhaust manifolds.
I guess if you took off all the exhaust bolts the intake would stay there until you put the bolts back in.

Am I missing something here? I thought we were talking about sway bar mounts.

How did we get talking about exhaust manifolds?

I got a question on my 86 CJ7 and need some help.
I’m replacing the sway bar brushing and notices that the frame mounting brackets are somewhat loose on both sides,
I figuring that maybe the top horizontal bolt going though the frame may be meant to be a pivot point?
And the 2 bottom bolts coming back up into the frame are just to keep it aligned? because they aren't bolted to anything. is something missing like a nut plate?
I don’t know, am I totally off track here. I’m not the ordinal owner and wondering maybe that someone was here before because
1 of the 4 bottom mounting bolts (2 brackets 2 bolts each) doesn’t match the others. any help apprecated
many thanks

Those anti-sway bar mounts are bolted the same as the steering gearbox. The way I understand it there are nuts that are tack welded inside the frame. Those anti-sway bar mounts should be solid.

Also here's a tip for the web site: if you have a new question you would be better off starting a new thread. People that have already read this thread may be ignoring it.
In the lower left of the forum web pages there is a button that says "new thread" press that to start a new topic.
