I got a new Holley Sniper system for the CJ. Not that I didn’t like the old Holley Projection but been watching too much Power Nation. 🤣🤣

This one controls both the fuel and timing.

Anyone else tried one? If so, any advise on the install?

More updates as available

ive been watching theses lately even more so with the price dropping. i think I saw that the master kit was only like 1300

I have one still in the box, and the engine still on the stand.

The master kit is the fi/ in- line fuel pump only. i got the in tank pump and the distributor/ coil setup as well. Then it figures out the best timing and adjusts it!

time for me to get busy 😃

Make absolutely sure your ignition wire is hot through the entire key on cycle

Ask me how I know... ;)

I have a Sniper with Hyperspark distributor, coil and CD box and I love it (on a 351w though). Make sure you watch all the Holley install videos and download the FULL instruction manual...not just the quickstart manual that comes with the kit. Follow the directions to a T and you'll be fine.
One thing about the Hypserspark...contrary to what 73CJ said, the system doesn't figure out the best timing. The Sniper is only as smart as you tell it to be. You have to input your initial timing settings through the handheld, but if you want to make any major adjustments from the base table that gets set up through the wizard, you need a Windows laptop to connect to the ECU and make adjustments from there. The timing table that the wizard sets up will get the motor to run fine, but it will certainly not unleash its full potential. To do that, you'll need to go in and edit each cell yourself and check it yourself, or have a tuner to help you out.
Final note...the smallest exhaust leak before your O2 sensor will wreak havoc on the system. Test your exhaust for leaks and button them up before running it.

Forgot to mention...same deal with your fuel table. It comes preloaded that will work fine, but to get the best performance/efficiency out of your motor, you'll need to tweak it. Yes, the Sniper is a learning computer, but again, it will only be as smart as you tell it to be.

efisystempro.com has some good articles and information on their website to get you going in the right direction. If you haven't purchased yours yet, I recommend you buy from them. They sell for the same price there, and your system comes with 2 years of free tuning and troubleshooting. That's huge because a tuning session will run you around $400. And troubleshooting with Holley is a crapshoot...their phone lines are ridiculously busy and it takes forever to get connected to anyone.

Thanks cglax
Holley marketing lead me to believe it will tweak the timing as well

i currently have an HEI one wire which works great. Maybe I wasted $500?

Watching this thread with great interest. Seriously considering the whole Holley package as well, and doing the install myself. EFI Systems has been super responsive to my questions. I have faith that they can guide me through the installation if i get stuck...

I think what was meant here is that it adjusts / controls timing based on both what has been input and what is being sensed (MAP/TPS/Coolant/O2).

To CJLAX6's point, to some degree it is garbage in / out. I've had the 4bbl Sniper since the spring of 2017 and have learned a lot and shared a lot on them. I'm no "pro" but I can make them run. None of them will run right if the directions aren't followed though, so details...details...details...

I've had a couple techs tell me to run it a bit without timing control and get some data in the system, then move to your locked-out distributor and introduce timing. I got mine just a few months after they were finally released and no one knew that then and I went straight to full control. I've had a few issues, but none where timing was an issue.

Let us know if you need help, it's silly not to ask for it ;-)

Thanks 007
going on real soon.
I’ll keep this thread updated.

and cglax that is a super article. Thank you. I wish I bought from them. They sure offer support!

007...that's exactly what I meant. They're great systems and run pretty darn well with basic settings, but to get the most power/efficiency/etc, it needs a little help with the AFR and timing tables.

There are a few folks out there that do remote tuning...they remote into your computer while you're connected to the Sniper and while you're on a dyno or driving and they'll run you through the wringer. The guy that gets referred the most is Mad Science Motorsports if you're ever interested.

Go through the Holley forums online...and try to avoid the FB pages on the sniper. They're filled with self proclaimed experts and you have to filter through all the garbage opinions to get any kind of decent info.

went to carlise yesterday and bought myself a master kit for 1100 bucks ill post pics and info when i begin to install

So I found it it’s also has a 2 fan controller as standard so I picked a alum radiator with 2 fans.
