How does this thing come out on my steering column. I dont want to round it

Ok I got that thing out. But know I’m stumped on this thing. I put a screw in it. Attached some vice grips and tried wiggling it but nothing.

You need the pivot pin puller to get that out. Here is a picture of what you need.

The little cup goes over the stud, the slot in the cup goes away from you. The stud screws into the pin. You hold the stud with a wrench and turn the nut with another one. That pulls the pivot pin out.
To reinstall it, line up the holes and drive it back in with a soft faced hammer. The pin has a lip on it and will hit bottom when it’s all the way in.

Think I’m gonna get a long bolt. Some washers and a nut and use a socket.

Well, the cutout on the cup is designed to accommodate the uneven surfaces behind the pin. I’ve tried it the way your talking about. I ended up braking the bolt off in the pin. If that happens, your screwed! You will have to weld a bolt onto the pin and replace the pin. Do it right! Get the right tools. You can usually get them at the local parts store.

$1.15 and both pins are out. But now I can’t figure out how the hell the rest comes apart after pin removal

SUCCESS. Gotta locate some ball bearings. But all four bolts were very loose. Put some loc tight on em and re torqued. Looking at the bearings I may just replace them. Now just gotta find the ignition switch.

So know that the bolts are tight I’m contemplating pulling the rest of the column and painting it. Also. The bearings that came out (more like fell out). Is that he upper and lower bearings or just the upper. I’m gonna get new bearings.

There are upper and lower bearings. The fsm has quite a detailed steering column section btw.
