1978 jeep cj 7 350 gm small block v8 with th400 automatic and quadra trac transfer case. 32"x 11.5" tires not lift kit
Hello all,

I'm having a brake fluid leaking issue near my master cylinder and booster. I've been researching some parts to replace and I need to know if I have a 2 bolt calliper system or a 6 bolt calliper system. The cj is a 1978 with disc brakes in the front and drums in the back. It has a GM Turbo 400 automatic with a newly rebuilt borgwarner 1339 Transfer Case .

If I'm being honest I have little experience in restoring so when I pulled off the tire to look at the calipers, I didn't even see any bolts. Lame I know. But if someone can direct me to some photos of what I need to be looking for I'd be grateful. Do any of you have experience with either the 2 bolt or 6 bolt system?

Thank you

The first pic shows the 6 bolt caliper mount, the 2nd pic. is the 2 bolt mount. You have to look close as the 2 bolts are kinda dirty.

This is perfect thank you. So I will need to remove the front disc to get a good look at the type I have on my jeep I take it? I noticed you have a sort of tie rod pulling tool. This will be needed for me to do this?

Thank you

Yes you would need to remove the rotor/hub to see.
No puller is needed, I was pulling the spindle in that pic.
Another way to tell is the rotors are different thickness but I don't know off the top of my head what they measure. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Ok I was just looking at 4wd and I think I figured it out.
The 6 bolt rotor is 1 1/8" thick and the 2 bolt rotor is 7/8 thick.
Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

:)It is a 6 bolt bracket that holds the floating GM style single caliper that is 1 1/8" thick rotor...........that would be in reference to the 77-78 Jeep
"Big Brake" option which also came with 6 bolt Warn Premium locking hubs.
The standard brakes were a 7/8" thick rotor on a 5 bolt hub.
