So I am working on the Howell kit for my 1984 CJ this weekend.

I have a few questions for those that have done this before. First off this is an emission legal kit since we have emissions tests here in Colorado. The Jeep is not originally a CA emissions vehicle.

So here are the questions:

1) The CTO plug I have just has two connections. Can I make this work or am I going to have to buy the Jeep part that has the 4?

2) There was two tubes that ran from that air cleaner and part went into exhaust downpipe and 1 into cat. Do these remain or do I plug them? Kit documentation is not clear at all.

3) Has anyone run into issues where the documentation doesn't match what you are seeing?

4) I have one wire that goes to the start soleinoid and in some of the documentation is says I should have two. If it's just one which
side?

Thanks,
Steve

Howells tech support is pretty good. They can answer questions and walk you through it. It's worth a phone call.

Any ideas on what to do with the old diverter tubes? I can disconnect these or just plug them?

One goes to the cat and one goes to the downpipe.

Trash 'em and plug the holes, and it will still be legal for smog if required. I am pretty sure it stated so in the instruction manual, i'll have to look at that.

^ agree ^
Plug or remove them. If you use them you defeat the O2 sensor.
