I noticed some black semi-hard goo on the floor under my jeep. It had come from my ignition control module. When I removed it, enough of the goo had melted out that the circuit board was visible. The jeep would still start and run, but it obviously needed replacing, which I did. I got the part (Standard Ignition) from OReilly Auto. After driving it only a couple of brief trips, I've noticed the same thing is happening again.
I had read somewhere that if you leave the ignition switch in the accessory position for a long time, it can cause this problem. I've made very sure that the lock cylinder switch is in off and locked position, so I don't think this is the issue. I am suspicious that this may be related to the fact that I rebuilt my steering column (including new lock cylinder and ignition switch located on the lower part of the column). Is it possible that I don't have the switch adjusted properly, or that the switch is faulty? It seems to function well.
Also, please note that I have a Davis DUI ignition and a Howell Fuel injection on this jeep.
Any help is appreciated
