Hi all,
I am new here and new to CJ's I have a CJ7 1985 for 2 weeks now
should I have a ignition light somewhere or not, I have no lights on my dash when I turn my Key, at what point is the ignition hot? when I put the key in or when its turned.

Any help would be great.

First off welcome! I see from the info you're from the UK, is your jeep a US or export? The US jeeps do not have a CEL or ignition light, not sure about the exported ones. The two lights that may come on is brake light, if the parking brake is on and/or 4x4 light if it's in 4hi. Usually the first turn of the key is ACC, the second is ignition on and of course all the way is start. However the voltage and fuel gauges will start moving into an indicating position.

Welcome - you’re probably going to learn quickly that most anything electrical on your Jeep may have been modified by a PO.
I’ll link the electrical diagram if you haven’t already found it through the search function.

A good place to start is at your fuse block and not just that fuses are good the base terminals can corrode and cause high impedance pull each one and clean the terminals and reinstall several times.

I live in Germany and have an export model 81 CJ. Mine has no ignition light. You know its going when the engine cranks, LOL.

No ign light was OEM on any CJ.
