I'm looking for a column to put in my '84 CJ7 . The current stock column is fixed (no tilt) and I no longer need the column mounted ignition switch or lock cylinder. I installed push button start with the button on the dash. I also want tilt. No shifter needed. So just a tilt column without the ignition. Got a quote from ColumnsGalore.com for $725 plus shipping. Ouch! Ididit wants a grand plus you need over $100 more for additional mounting brackets/hardware. FlamingRiver is close to that but with no keyless options for a direct fit.

So now I'm seeking advice on other options others may know of or have experience with, in terms of pulling a compatible column from another vehicle, etc.

TSB8C, fyi, I was able to raise the steering wheel a whopping 2 inches on my non tilt original column. You’ll have to relocate the attachment at the firewall and the trim piece at the dash panel. If you are not afraid to modify your Jeep stock form, this might work for you. You might be able to pass on the tilt feature and save money on a fixed type without ignition. The way I see it, the tilt feature is nice for vehicles driven by multiple drivers.

The late CJs used the same steering column as a certain year range of S10 pickups and blazers. I pulled the ignition parts out of a junkyard one to fix my cj column several years ago. It may take some fabricating but that may be a retrofit option for a lot less than the aftermarket options.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at S10 and Blazer columns, but all that look similar still have the ignition on the column. I am seeking a tilt column with no ignition switch and hate to spend a grand plus to get a generic IDIDIT or something.

If you want to consider OEM w/ tilt try Roy Stary at Pasadena 4x4 and Salvage. It means a trip to Houston and he's a odd duck at times but he has everything for CJ's.

I went to take a look at my 1990 Chevrolet 1500 pick up with tilt and ignition cylinder on the column. It is possible to delete the ignition cylinder and make it look like it never existed. Surely this can be done on a stock CJ tilt column.

My same thought. Couldn't I just get a different collar for a tilt column that doesn't have the opening in it for the ignition lock? That is now my new search - a compatible tilt column and a replacement collar without the ignition.

Good luck.

Just use a YJ tilt collum and weld up the ignition switch hole. If you can't weld some tape and JB weld will work. It's non structural and it all comes apart so u can paint it when ur done
