I'm going through my steering system n a new to me Jeep to improve sloppy handling. I've heard of changing to crossover steering but also heard it was stock. Besides the drop pitman arm and stabilizer, is this a stock steering setup?

I noticed there are degree shims under the rear leaf packs but not in the front. How can I check if I need them?

Any tips for improving it would be appreciated. Just looking for better road handling mostly.

You really need to fill out your jeep info so we know what you have.
Your steering looks stock for a late model cj from what I can see in the pic.

Yes, looks stock. (of course OEM steering stabilizer was not made by Skyjacker but that's trivial)

That high lift suspension looks like a quality set up, btw. The shims are installed to help correct the rear pinion angle that was upset by the suspension modification. You might want to do a search around on the net to see what is just what required for an auto alignment like in terms of camber, castor, and toe in, plus rear pinion angle. Maybe even a trip to an alignment shop for an education on how a high lift spring can affect it. Jeep alignment inspection usually can be done with a protractor/level and a tape measure.

Have your front end alignment done which should give you a computer printout of what your front end adjustments are. You want your caster to be about 6 degrees positive for the best steering. A degree or two off should still drive okay but the sweet spot is 6 degrees.

Your front ball joints could be worn and need replacing, which can effect your steering. I see it has an aftermarket lift on it. What kind of shape are the bushings in it? Are they rubber or poly? Rubber will wear quicker.
