The Jeep was totally gone thru, 124k original miles on body,
New Crate engine and Trans, Weber Carb, Interior replaced back to stock, Dana 44 Rear, Dana 35 Front, 2.5 " Suspension Lift 1" body 33-12.50 Tires on Mickey Thompson Wheels, New Dupont Paint
I have been trying to decide what exactly Im going to do about the sound system in my 7,
It came with a pod in that holds a pair of 6.5's in the rear i believe,
Im going to install some kind of sub system in the rear,
Ive heard of people putting amps under the rear seat,
I want it as out of sight as possible,
I also saw where someone installed a 5 channel JL Audio amp, it looked like under the dash , im trying to find the thread, looks to have been under the steering wheel kind of,
Ive had several jeeps and i know with the top off to hear sounds you need alot more than say with the hard top on, even with a soft top on you loose alot,
If anyone has a good system then have went with, Ive figured out the rear sub part and I could put the amp there but would rather not,
I also on the sub box am going to install wiring quick disconnets in case i need the room for something, thats one reason i liked the amp under the dash as if I needed room and removed the seat I would not have to worry about the amp
Opinions appreciated

you sure you want a subwoofer system? if you get some proper componet speakers you can get nice bass without loosing that much floor space to sub boxes and amps. less things to rattle around. less draw on the battery for things like huge f'in lights and winches.

im going with a nice set of 6x9's in small boxes in the rear (probably up on sides of tub over wheel) then get a custom 'kick panel' made for the front down by your feet to hold a 6 1/2" with some tweeters. havnt really thought of a place for the amp but im not worries about it.

i honestly would prefer no amp and all marine grade components. i dont want to be all scared when some water splashes into the vehicle...and i definitely dont want to waste the money on water damaged components.

I was looking at my cj last summer when I was replacing the sides and it appeared to me that I could cut a hole in the passenger wheel tub and make a sub inclosure the and mount the amp undr the dash but i havent had the time to find out forsure

so using the tub as a speaker box? lol thats cool if it sounds nice. my only worry would be the sound distortion at high spl levels due to the metal vibrating and whatever its connected to. i would suggest lots of dyna mat to deaden any unwanted noise. good luck, definitely post some pics if you do this, i would like to see how it turn out.

well i think i do, i was going to put some kind of quick wiring release so i could remove it, its not an only vehicle, I had an 8" n a console in a tj rubicon and with the sound bar etc after i replaced the speakers it was ok with top down, but no sound bar with cj, but when i bought it there are some pods that sit beside the back seat on each side and go back to the tub,
I may can get by with just good components as you said, i am not some little punk who wants thump thump , i just have had many jeps and know with top off sound goes bye bye

I would agree mostly about the marine stuff, or completely water tight box everything... My uncle just installed the stereo in his 72 and when he tried to use the windshield wiper fluid figured out he had a leak in system by radio shorting out... Point is these things are not (as i'm sure you know) very water-tight, even if you don't have that same leak...

That being said, this will be the first vehicle I own that I have not planned to do the exact same as what you've posted... I always liked load stereo systems in my cars...

I think I'll settle with the loud exhaust system for my music for now

If you are going to do though, just be sure to think of the water damage possibility...

I will I have put sound systems in TJ's as I know if you run a soft top on a cJ i would assume the TJ would fit better, I run a hard top but of course like all true jeepers it comes off in summer, for some tight of water tight full soft top,
Meaning i dont just run a bikini etc.

Im looking for it now but a guy installed a 5 channel JL Audio Amp under his dash, I believe it was near the steering wheel, fit perfect, and was not conflicting use of anything else.,
If I do go with subs in the back they will be downward firing and a few more tricks so when I do get into a sprinkle etc with the top back its not ruined,
Ive got some pods that came with the jep not hooked up but he just cave them, if they are what i think they are they hold an 8in sub and a 6.5 on each side in rear, if so I wont do the speaker box in rear for now, and just get high quality components,

Silly questions maybe but has anyone got a sound-bar to install on a CJ, i know the bars are different in Cj's i think pre 80 they are one way and 80-86 are different, I dont expect it to bolt up like factory, Im going to go some measuring in the next few days and see if they make one that is the corrent length etc and if so, Ill fab up some custom mounts for it if needed.

another newbie question what size speaker is behind the dash on a CJ7 ,

I am definitely adding speakers and I am going to get components that require more power than the radio would put out to get the better sound, I like to hear my music with the top and doors off, also I know you run a big risk of getting your audio equipment jacked in a jeep so like with the AMP im looking for places to mount things out of sight, and I dont want to use under the back seat for the amp mounting location.
I am in the middle of researching the components I will use they will be something like memphis audio or JL audio or something of tat caliber,

one more thing on the subs with the downward firing box, if you look in all you would see is a carpet box but I was going to put one of those jeep logo plastic pieces that covers the rear cargo area so you could not see in, and with the soft top down the box would be out of sight also,

Any information would be great,
One last thing, I am not running a winch, but with the 5 channel amp and the sound system, I also have 2 extra lights I have had them on a windshield mount and on a bumper mount at different times, would you guys recommend going with a deep cycle optima style battery,
I mean no way it could hurt right?

as for the battery +1

for strong audio and making sure everything else is getting the power needed i would definitely upgrade the battery.

im looking at putting in 2 yellow top optimas. 1 for motor and the other will power the winch and led light bar im getting.

i had a truck a bit back with two rockford fosgate 12"s...the nice ones....every time there was a real hard hit on the subs you would see the dash lights and head lights dim down.....no bueno!

These sound like sweet systems! I just have a JVC radio/CD with 2 6x9's in the back on the wheel wells and just added 2 5.25's in the front in a centrapod. My fear was that anything nicer would get boosted, but mine sounds a lot better with the new front speakers.

But beware the centrapod if you have a 1979 like mine...it was not as clean a fit as a custom enclosure should be. I had to remove the little plastic vent piece under the heater to squeeze it in there...and it still BARELY clears the tcase shifter in 4hi.
