Jeep Forward Control Moab Prep
This time next week I'll be in Moab, Utah for the Easter Safari. The question is will my Jeep?
I recently replaced the tired front drum brakes on my '64 Jeep FC with a disc brake conversion from R&P Off-Road. It was one of those conversions that practically fell onto the truck! It did require a small bit of grinding, but in less than a day the front end was buttoned up. To say the least I was impressed by the kit. My truck has a closed knuckle Dana 44 , but the kit also works on 1941-76 jeeps with different closed knuckle front axles.
The problems arose next. I went to bleed the brakes and the nearly 50 year old brake bleed on the right rear wheel cylinder was busted off. Then I tried to pull the drum to fix the wheel cylinder, and the hub is pressed on the axle shaft outside the drum, so I need to track down the appropriate hub puller. Then I noticed that brake line is rusted hard and falling apart, so I have to replace that as well. Odd how the upgrades went 100% smooth and the simple maintenance is fighting me every step of the way. There are a few other minor upgrades and repairs that I'd like to do just so I can cruise it safely on the red rocks and I'll be posting those as well. stay tuned
