Hi,

I have been intrested in jeep for about 2 years now and have purchased a 47 CJ2a , and a 83 CJ7 since then. i am currently rebuilding the CJ2a and working on getting the CJ7 road worthy. I was looking around the other day for a jeep magazine that i would like to subscribe to so i could learn some stuff about my jeep. But i notcied that all the magazine seem to be about newer jeeps and upgrades that cost alot of money. So i thought if i wasnt the only one who wanted a magazine about old jeep i would make a online or pdf file magazine, that would feature different peoples build and upgrades for there jeep.

If there is any of you here that would be intrested in something like that let me know. I would also need people who would like to see there jeeps in an issue, so please volenteer your work-in-progress or already finished jeep, or even just some budget upgrades you have installed.

Let me know your opinions.
Travis

My Jeep is going under the knife for the umpteen time this winter and I am fully documenting my work. you are more than welcome to the info when I am finished for an article.

Thats kind of what we do here, isn't it?

I think it would be a good idea.Organized right it would eliminate a lot of forum searching.Especially if you could have it as part of this forum.Would really boost membership.

I think it is a good idea and worth creating a prototype -- see how the response is -- then determine if you want to take it further. You might want to check out Scribd as a hosting platform. I would enjoy (and pay for) a magazine that was more applicable to my 31 year old Jeep and appreciated that I don't have master mechanic skills or a banker's budget.

The editorial & production challenges will be significant if you are thinking about a traditional magazine - even if only published in a digital format. If you are looking to sell it, then there are all sorts of new business considerations you'll have to get involved with. If you want to print it, then there is even more BS to deal with.

BTW: I'm responsible for much of the subscription management and business-side of publishing 38 titles (academic journals) sold in print and online.

I appreciate all your replies. I think I will go ahead and make out a prototype and see what people think then. I wasn’t really planning on selling it, I just figured it would be a helpful idea for us with old jeeps and something to do in my spare time, which is a lot lately since I just finished school and haven’t started working yet. But there is still a lot about making this I will need to learn like gillmore said the editorial & production challenges will be significant and new to me since this will be a first for me.

Now I just need to find someone’s with a jeep I can write about for the prototype and a few upgrades to put in it.

There is JP and there was J rations but I agree not much for the CJ people. Too old a rig now ,same with new after market parts.

I'm in the northeast and rust has taken the CJ's off the road.
I replaced the bodt and then the frame but not many CJ's left here.

I'll help with swaps:
T-18 , Scout Dana 300 ,YJ parts in a CJ etc.

you know
I would love a CJ magazine, would love to write articles for it also.

I know how you feel about the current jeep mags, but remember they are designed to be commercial successes and that means they sell advertisements. Want advertisers, you have to deal with a base that guys are buying parts for. Now face the fact the average guy with a jeep less than 10 years old is spending a lot more money on accessories than the guy with a 30 year old CJ, the Cj guy is repairing his ride.
So Limited amount of sales opportunity, it is not funny most magazines are slanted toward new jeeps.

Now, if we can get a base of advertisers, of all the CJ forums out there this one is the best balanced about mods and stuff so would be a good place to see about what the average Joe is doing with his CJ, some of the other places get you to restore and then it is not a trail jeep as it is an antique. I think here we represent the guys wanting to mod and trail run the jeeps.

Go for it, My mouth is already watering.
