Jeep Extreme Trail Edition Camper - Click above for high-res image gallery

We know what you're thinking. What good is a vehicle capable of overlanding to the remotest parts of the planet if there's no place to lay your head when you arrive at your for-the-night destination? Here's a bit of good news for you world travelers: Jeep has just announced a new Trail Edition Camper that will be available as an official Mopar accessory from any Jeep dealership. And it looks just about perfect hooked up behind a new Wrangler.

From what we can see in the high-res image gallery below, these trailers are pop-ups that fold down to a manageable size for towing. Each trailer will sport sleeping arrangements for four with one dedicated queen-size bed (the other sleeping quarters are converted from the table and couch), built-in aluminum cabinet, 110-volt power supply and a "premium canvas enclosure."

Two models will be available, the standard Trail Edition Camper and the (*cue monster-truck-announcer voice*) Extreme Trail Edition Camper. While the basic model gets 32-inch tires and 12 incles of ground clearance, the Extreme Edition ups the ante with 35-inch BFGs and a whopping 15 inches of clearance. Other suitably extreme upgrades include a beefed-up frame and full underbody skid plates.

Pricing starts at $9,995 for the regular model and $11,995 for the Extreme. Full details and specifications can be found after the break, and we highly suggest you check out our high-res image gallery below.

10 grand is a lot of money , but I do like the concept.
just what I need, another thing to put on my " things I want to build" list.

I have a friend who bought one of those adventure trailers that is rated for black diamond trails, carries a kitchen, tent on top, water, gas, awning, storage and all the bells and whistles. Thing originally cost close to 20 g's. He brgs he got it for close to 10. So this last weekend as we were camping we got to see it demonstrated.
Stove needed aftermarket dispersment for the flame, oh he had them. Water was on a hand pump that gave out about an ounce at a time. cutting board was to thin so he had an extra. Once the tent was set up storage was really hard to get into, never set up awning as it was a pain in the arse, tent on top needed a ladder to get in and yep, that night one of them slipped going to take a pee, sink was left at home as it was difficult to set up. camped on the side of the trail and not in the campground as folded out it made sense that way.
So I looked at my ghetto trailer, an old popup that I took the popup off and made a 6 1/2 by 4 box 2 feet hard on, had taken my easyup(awning) out and put over the picnic table (easy to set up and not attached to trailer) set up a set of easy up shelves, (again easy and portable) set my tent under some trees(portable) had kitchen set up on a fold out table, my 5 gallon jugs of water were pourable not pumped, when ever I wanted to get into the trailer it was easy to access, and thought of the 2 hundred plus the old trailer frame I had in it and felt real good about myself.
I think they will sell enough to get tooling cost back, after all you can finance it with the purchase. Bur WOW 10 gs so that you are stuck camping where you can place it and then have to level it. At least in the middle of the night when you have to pee it is not 5 feet in the air

which would you prefer on an off road trailer?? A ball hitch or a pintle hook??

Hard to say, I mean I am set up for regular and have never had one pull out on me, but then some day.
But then how hard of a trail do you want to down, I see guys pull balls down the Rubicon every time I am there.

A pintle would clunk and bang and rattle but you could stand it on it's nose.
this will require more thought.

Frustration isn't it

My brother built his with an adapter, you can swap between the ball or pintle.
Tows it with the ball to where he's going say a trail head, then swaps to a pintle.

Me I'd just run a pintle and be done with it. A friend wrapped his loop part of the pintle
with rubber inner tube zipped in place and it quiets down rattle alot.
I'd probably do the same.

If it was cheaper I'd consider a trailer, but I can build one for less and it would be tailered
to my liking so I'll pass, unless I come across a used one down the road, LOL.

I prefer the M101 canadian military trailer or a m416 the canadian trailer has better features.
Don't confuse the canadian m101 withthe american m101 it's a 3/4ton.

what can I say, it is built to do what it claims, and built like a brick poopie house, but it is the biggest set of compromises I have ever seen

first, everything is built of top grade products and the workmanship is spot on
there is no wasted space and everything fits snugly

kitchen is too narrow and stove has issues because of size restraints
water pump is hard to use
cutting board is about 9 inches wide
awning above kitchen is a hassle to set up and have to retreve poles and stuff from storage area, use pins to set up and is not large
Fridge unit is inside of storage
once the tent is up you have to duck under it to reach other side storage
and cannot use the upper storage access, so everything in main storage has to be stacked so it can be slid out the rear or so stored it does not come tumbling out when you open the rear storage door.
sink is a compromise to set up and use
tent is difficult to access and I noticed hard to set up, seems tolerances on the fold out are tight and had to be reset several times, I can see where any damage to the channel will cause parts to be ordered.
Would not think after a few drinks I would want to bail out to take a piss.
and the biggest problem is that everything hangs on to the trailer so you do not spread out, instead you are committed to be within a few feet of the trailer.
But They love it, 2nd time out.
I would be claustrophobic at best and after the second climb into the tent to find my book I would be livid.
