I'm looking for an aluminum locking strap for my jerry can tool box. I can't find one anywhere that's reasonably priced or not already attached to a can. Has anyone seen them offered anywhere? I want the old school "go under the handle grip and lock in the front" type. Thanks in advance. :)

You have me curious as to what specifically you are looking for.Do you have a picture? I see alot of different designs popping up on Google :chug:

I would think you could attach some latches purchased from a local hardware store to metal strips to duplicate what you are looking for.

Something like this? But metal?

I have the smittybuilt to use with my rampage toolbox jerry can. Not a fan. The welds broke on the strap so now I am using a bungee cord to hold it. The smittybuilt strps down over the top of the handle.

You could make a strap easy enough, I've considered doing it on my Smitty Built can holder as well.

In all honesty, you are probably better off with the strap. The strap is easier to tighten up well and would be quieter, no rattles from either the can or the strap.

I'd like a metal one like this. I already have the bottom attached so it would be nice to snap it on and then add a lock. I agree that a nylon one would be a lot quieter and if it was a gas can I'd go that route, but it's a tool box can so I don't want anyone cutting it and walking off with my favorite screw driver.

Looks home made to me. All those parts are easily available.

Thanks. I think you're probably right. My last two parts arrived for my engine rebuild that's taken me off the road all summer and I was hoping to order it quickly so by the time I finished up I could strap down and be on the road. These were really common when I was a kid. It's odd that no one re-manufactures them.

That setup in your last pic looks pretty much like a "Blitz" can and carrier that was produced a few years back. I took that hold down clamp and strap and made a quick removable battery hold down in my CJ:

I think you are wanting something old school metal and most things are plastic and just made cheap unless you want to pay to play or unless you can make it yourself Quality isn't cheap these days

I think I found it! surpluswarrior.com. It is a very basic site with only one picture but I ordered it anyways so we'll have to see what it looks like when it arrives. :). I thought the rattle comment was very valid so I think I'll add some sticky one sided foam sheeting to key places on the inside of the strap when I install.

Try a military surplus store. It's where I've always gotten mine

:agree:
Where I would first look.

I made a strap out of 1/8 x 1 flat steel, just bent it to fit over the can and opening. I welded a hinge on one end and part of a padlock hasp. It fits tight and I can lock it.
I also cut a 5 gal metal gas can and bolted a hinge and padlock hasp on it to make my own toolbox.:chug:
