5721 waren winch, want to take power button off dash and have a switch and wire away from jeep, I was told need to hook to old ford type solenoid.any help.
I appreciate your reply.
It only has one wire going to the dash and two cables. I was told I could leave the cables, but in order to have an outboard wire, you are saying I need to have 4 solenoids. I've been told you can get by with 2. Whether I need 2 or 4, where can I go to find a wire diagram or info on hooking up the solenoids.
Appreciate any help,
does your winch have power out?? the wire and both cables go to the dash or do the two cables go to the battery?
you can try the Warn web site I know they have parts lists and maybe diagrams.
I will try to describe what I think you need. to explain things I will call the two connections on the winch motor #1 and #2 and the battery will be + and - the solenoids are a,b,c and d.
solenoids a and b need to have the input terminal wired to +, c and d have the input wired to - from the battery.
the output terminals of a and c are wired to motor #1 and the b and d are wired to #2. Now for the switch which will need to be a single pole double throw , common to + and one wire to energize solenoid a and d and one side to energize b and c. When the switch is up the winch motor runs in one direction and when down it changes polarity and runs in the other direction.
Basically what you are doing is swapping the + and - at the winch motor I hope this helped.
