here to tell my story of my build.

2012
found a 1982 CJ7 on c.l. for $500. been in storage since so I ran up and bought it!
got home. but in new battery and it turned free but no spark or fuel. had compression.
wired in a off the self electric fuel pump and 5 gallon can of gas. also had to buy a spark modal (or what every you call the little electric box). then it fired right up. (time to sink some money into it. in the end, want to put $5k Max into it.

new fuel pump, plugs, cap, rrotor, wires, fuel lines, Carb apart and cleaned.....the works of little things. cpl hundred bucks. had very good threaded 31s on it. but of course, they were flat spotted so bad it shook the glass out of the side mirrors at 30mph. haha.

previous owner had added stainless hard wear. hood latches, hinges... ..

took it to play first whole shot in 2wd in the grass twisted the rear drive shaft like a candy cane.:censored: (idk) replaced it and then I started building! no more braking stuff.

so off to do research. it runs great and has plenty of power through the gears so I though suspension first. SPOA, high steer, beefy drive shafts...

rockyroad came in with a kit, to springs, *bolt on spring over kit, high steer. every relocating bolt, bracket...... so after about $2k spent with them I got everything I needed with ranchero shocks. now its sitting up and it took 2 days to get everything on. easy! the bolt on I can end up welding it on if wanted. so far no welding as I will be switching axles soon and want to try to use the kit on the new ones with some mods. I extended my own drive shafts for the time being. they are almost true but shake around 65mph. the jeep only runs around 72-75 before it runs out of power to turn more rpm. getting new shafts built by professional builder and should be getting shipped to me this week. will keep updated.

as I was doing that work I noticed the tank was horrible under the skid plate. and the bushings looked like marshmallows on an open fire between two Graham crackers. lol. so new tank and urethane bushings. $300

traded some junk for the aluminum wheels that's are on it now. found some 35" street treads off c.l. for $100 to get it rolling. they were actually like new. guy didn't know what he had.

found some good off road tires on wagon rims for off road use for $200 (dry rotten keeps me from using them on road) then had to get some seats and paint.

all in all I'm about $3500 into this CJ and I drive it daily when weather doesn't allow me to take the bike. it has around 9,000 miles on it since I put it together this spring. most miles are driving too and from the area to go off roading. its been in mud over the fenders and angled hills of about 60 degrees.

axles are still stock (open front and rear.. gears....? haven't checked), exhaust is stock, intake stock. and just took smog pump off last weekend. will not weld rear end as I hate welding hardened steel, weeks my brain! haha but I do have a 10.25 with 4.10 gear and Limited slip carrier laying here. just looking for the Dana 60 for the front at a decent price. have a Dana 60 Limited slip carrier that I'll be installing once I get one.

already had the 12,000# badlands winch I snatched off my old samurai before selling it. so $0 cost

seems like a lot of jabber jabber with out pics. lost a phone with the SD card with all my pics on it so only have a few I posted on f.b. that I can retrieve. but will post as I go from here.

any info or suggested info would be greatly appreciated. as I have built everything from demo derby cars to drag bikes. but never a decent off roader.

got my new drive shafts in Friday. threw them in the jeep. look great. they are so much heavier duty com paired to the stock.

as you can see in the pics. the first is the shafts compressed. the second is extended. they new Tallon shafts have 7" of movement over the approximate 3" of the stocks. have front and back just didn't take a pic.

the stock in the pic is modded by me. larger tube and longer. but wouldn't flex enough. fronts and backs were pushing and pulling Transfer Case under articulation. ended up twisting the whole Transfer Case cross member.

also the spline thickness is way different. the new spline size is like 34mm. where as the stock is around 25mm. (my micrometer is broke) lol.

I think next in line for upgrades is a twin stick conversion.

took it out to the local play spot and of course broke some parts. 1st. blew out a lock out on the passenger side. that sucks but better than an axle I guess.

then twisted the Transfer Case cross member and it rolled the engine to the right. and smashed my oil filter. got the t.c. cross member straighted up and braced with 3/8" angle iron.

the pic is where I jacked the Transfer Case up and chained the engine to the frame. you can see where it still hit the engine mount. but now its good and clear.

going to put an oil filter relocation kit on it, and twin stick. I could go most places in 2wd but not in high with stock gears and 35's.
