I won't be doing off road much if at all. no lift, all stock. Should I still get a brace? are 31's considered large for the CJ? On a side note, the new tires seemed to tighten up my steering, strange.

IMO it's always a good idea. The're cheap and easy to install.
Keep an eye on the steering box frame mount as the bolts work loose sometimes.

I have always ran 31's and never had a brace and it has never caused a problem and 4wheel the :dung: out of it.

I say yes, it will reduce flex and make for slightly tighter steering and every little bit helps.

I've got 35" tires on mine, and its never had a brace. Works just fine.
That said, I have the parts to build one and might just do it during this build-up.

I say it's a good idea, you may never need one but they are sooo cheap or sooo easy to make, why wouldn't you? A little better steering a bunch more support, lessen the chance of cracks, why not?

I made mine out of scrap one day setting around being bored, took about 45 minutes and a ton stronger.....

We like to put a brace on everything. Even the PS Saginaw 800 boxes need a brace to keep from cracking the housing. You can't believe how much your frame rail twists on the side the box is mounted to.
This one is on my 65 CJ5 Hopefully these pictures made it?

^^Nice work :notworthy:.
There is more movement going on than many realize, the problem is even greater with a drop pitman that adds more leverage against the mount.

is there a reason for heim bearings on the ends??

I built mine out of material on hand and solid mounted it.

I think thats a good idea, it will let things (frame) twist around a little without it twisting on the box. I might have to redo mine some day.
I'm guessing thats why be did it but only he can tell you that.:D

IO,

That is a left and a right hand threaded heim Joints which first off makes it easy to adjust the length.
Also because you will have movement from the frame twisting I feel it's better to have a little flex there in that joint.

perfect, I am going to order one now! I didn't do a lift on my Jeep and I put 31's on. Do the wheel look too large with no lift?

Looks great to me the way it is!:)

Thanks guys! I am trying to keep it as original as possible but the tires that were on it before looked pretty small due to the amount of space in the wheel well. I heard good things abou thtese tires so I decided to try 31's. Will 31's cause much stress on the drive train?
