Near the top I saw this Ptarmigan. This bird usually stays in the arctic circle. It comes down to Colorado only if it can stay above the tree line. It changes it's color throughout the year. In winter it's all white. It's always very camouflaged.

Then I got my jeep as high as possible. This is the end of the road. In the above picture you can see highway 550 as it goes over Molas Pass.

I continued on foot and climbed to the top of Kendal Mountain.
Looking back down I took this picture of the town of Silverton.

I created an interactive panorama on Dermandar.com. You guys have to check it out: Top of Kendal Mountain - Dermandar
On the way down I tried a fork that headed to the south. Had a nice trip.

This shot shows highway 550 as it goes over Molas Pass. It also shows the deep Animas River valley.

Breath taking photos as always. Thanks for sharing. I envy your afternoon jaunts. Beautiful country.

well you got about 8 weeks to work out the details!

I hear there are forest fires on the other side of the mountain west of Creede.:eek:

Great pics Busa, hope to make it out this year.

I do hope there are a couple of places to eat in Silverton that are better than Handlebars. That's one thing to be said for Ouray the food was good, especially for being the geographic middle of no place in the off season.:D

I can't wait!!!:banana::bounce::chug::punk::grinjeep:

Workin'on a plan for next year!

After I descended Kendal Mountain I took a fork that brought me into Deer Park, south of Kendal Mountain. There I found this old bus.
