My 85 CJ7 has a pro comp 4 inch suspension lift on it from the PO and I want to replace the bushings in the leaf springs due to them being worn out and cracked. the new bushing kit came with the bushings as well as the steel tube inserts. The old bushings in the springs did not have the steel tube inserts in them. Was this a mistake from the PO? I though they were suppose to be inserted to help the bolt from tearing up the poly bushing. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

The tube is to make certain the bushings are not over-tightened.;)
Every kit is different-That said, sounds like an 'OOPS' to me.

Agree. The fixed mount eye should have a sleeve that goes through the bushing. Like LG said, this give you proper torque without crushing the bushing or altering the width of the fixed mount through over-torque.

Save yourself or a future owner some hassle by using some anti-seize on the bolt when you re-install it through the new sleeve and bushing. Otherwise the future owner will have to do like I did and sawzall the bolt on both sides due to it being seized inside the sleeve.

Another good tip is to use some white lithium grease when installing both the bushing inside the leaf eye and the sleeve into the bushing. Makes life a little easier.

And finally, will throw in my 2c for the use of rubber bushings over poly. I just think they have better benefits over poly and won't rattle your teeth then squeak at you after. Not to mention cheaper.

:agree: 110% :notworthy:
