Hey guys and gals I added a steering stabilizer shock to my 78 CJ7 with a SOA conversion and manual steering. Now the issue is that I can't turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. Not an issue while driving and making left hand turns on the street but when attempting sharper turns like a parking spot or hard left turn it won't make the turn and requires a two point turn, Is this due to the reach of the stabilizer or what. Right turns are no issue at all. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. TIA

Disconnect the stabilizer and find out if that's the problem. Also, post a pic of your steering setup that shows the tie rod/drag link.

Also, with the stabilizer disconnected, make sure the pitman arm is centered (center of rotation should put the tires straight). Have someone turn the wheel back and forth and look for movement at the steering box. My factory mount didn't last long when I went SOA and 35s before it cracked.

And FYI, power steering is a simple swap with your AMC 304 . Pull the bracket/pump/steering box from a V8 FSJ (Grand Wagoneers are all over junk yards near me). Then just get the hoses for a 78 or 81 AMC 304 CJ (depending on if you get a 70s or 80s model pump/box).

Did you have this issue before the stabilizer install?

Assuming that the stabilizer is not hitting anything, you may have the stabilizer mounted wrong. Loosen the stabilizer and turn the wheels all the way to the left. Then mount the stabilizer so that it is fully compressed. You now have full left turning capability. You should be able to turn fully right if nothing is hitting, usually the diff cover. If you still can't turn fully right, you may have too short of a stabilizer for your application
