does anyone have a favorite shock absorber and why?? I am not even sure that I am in need of new ones. To be honest shocks are something I have never really given a lot of thought to except when oil is oozing from the seal, Right now I am running a set of lower end skyjacker shocks. I have for the most part been happy with the ride and except for the blown seal have had no problem with them. The seal blew because I drove across a plowed field at about 40 MPH. Looking back this may have not been a really bright thing to do in the first place but I was much younger (dumber) at the time.

I like "Rancho 5000's" They last & if they don't, they have a lifetime warranty.;)

For custom but very reasonably priced shocks - I like QA1 Qa1 - Jeep-CJ WEB Links

I installed some of these on a SOA reverse shackle YJ sprung CJ and they worked great. Rebuildable too!

I have run Rancho 5000s a lot, although they seem to be stiffer than a lot of shocks they seem to wear like iron. In the last 3 years I have gone over to OME shocks. I started on the advice of a guy who builds high dollar TJs, he had gone over to them because of both the wear and the performance. What I have noticed is a softer ride than the 5000s but still the control. besides that was on my 3rd year of the shocks when I wrecked the TJ.
Both are good shocks but the OMEs just seem to move a bit more fluid before dampening.

i need shocks for mine also. ill be watchin this:popcorn:

I have been considering the OME's and they are on the short list. I like the idea of long life but have come to appreciate a decent ride as well. actually the only issue I have had with the OME's is that they claim to have such a mild ride I have have concerns as to what they would do if I really got down on them. I don't plan on driving across a plowed field at 40 again but you never know.
Rancho's are dependable to be sure and the warenty is second to none. The ride I have experienced with Rancho suspension was about like a duce and a half. This is not a bad thing per say, just not my first choice. I think I am getting soft in middle age.

I've not tried them, but I know a lot of guy's that swear by the "Rancho 9000" Adjustable shocks.

my experience with the 9000s is they are a pain to adjust manually and the dash mounted adjustment is problematic.

I started using the OMEs in my TJ, which was a rock crawler, I would not know how they hold up to corn feilds but will say they make desert washes a breeze.
