I'm looking at 2-2.5" lift for a 1964 CJ5 . The current springs are in need of replacement. The jeep will be used on and off road (nothing serious). I've been researching rancho, superlift, skyjacker, bds, black diamond and pro comp. I've seen a huge price range with the different lifts. Usually you get what you pay for but I thought I would ask if anyone has any opinions or preferences of lift manufacturers?

I also need to replace shackles (currenty a homeade looking lift shackle) and would like to go back to stock. Any recommendations?

I ran a superlift on my last jeep and was satified with it's performance.
I also ran 33x14.50x15 Super Swamper TSL's on a 4" lift.

Might want to look into a YJ to CJ Spring Conversion kit some give you that extra 2-3" plus you get a little softer ride.

Also check out BDS they have a nice kit for your year and they have military wrap springs:

i have a pro comp 2.5" lift. i like it. i got it off cl from a old guy who puy it on his CJ7 then couldnt get in it. i paid $225 for it and the lift was never on the road until i put it on :D

I have a 2.5 skyjacker and never had a complaint, rides better than the stock did.

BDS susspension, American made, great warranty, good growing company

Thanks for the information. As of this am, I decided on BDS. While looking around today, found 4WD lift that is made by BDS. Has anyone used or purchased this lift?

I was sifting thru the 4wd forum when I saw that someone commented that the 4wd lift looks like BDS. I called 4wd tech support and asked if the kit was made by BDS and they said yes. I talked to a business in Portland, Or to arrange shipping and the tech there told me that it was a procomp lift. So I'm waiting for an email reply from 4WD tech. I asked them to clarify for me. The 4WD tech told me that for $65 extra dollars they would provide a warranty that was similar to BDS warranty.

Are you happy with the BDS kit you purchased? I had made up my mind that I was going with BDS when I came across the 4wd info. With a discount at 4wd the kit is running around $534. I don't want to purchase it without knowing who manufacutered it.

I firmly believe that you get what you pay for and if it sounds to good to be true it probably isn't worth the headache. I will most likely stick with BDS and not have to worry. If I learn anything from 4wd, I will post it. What 1/2 shackle did you purchase?

I don't have my CJ on the road yet - I am doing a complete ground up rebuild. I didn't buy a complete kit, just the springs as I'm going with QA1 shocks and I did a ubolt reversal. I just purchased the springs.

The kit from BDS that you would want is -->> BDS Suspension Kit 402H Details Or do you mean Black Diamond Suspension?

BUT!!!!!

I just got off the phone with 'someone' asking why they no longer have BDS on their web site (sales wise). BDS is in 'reorganization' mode and the company I spoke with will not sell the springs any more as they believe they will never emerge again. :(

That is very unfortunate as BDS made (makes) one heck of a great spring... :(

That being said, I would still by a spring from them even if they were not able to be warrantied.

Darn CJ. I have a BDS on my 70 CJ6 and love the lift.it is one of the few I have put on that everything was level without a few tweaks here and there, the springs were stellar and did not look like cheap chineese castings, hope they nake it out of their troubles.

JIMMY MY MAN ,I purchased all my stuff from BDS ...
:)FYI:You know there is no shipping charge if you get the kit through a distributor and It's cheaper than the price on the web-site

Great. I finally make my mind up after months of agonizing and now there is a reorganization? I'm also building from the ground up. I have had the jeep since 1986 and decided to fix it right.

jimmy, look for a BDS set, they are great springs
