Hi all,

Just picked up an 85 CJ7 . I did some research myself and have found a good bit of information. I am wondering what your favorite lift kits are? I am looking at 4 inches. I just want the 33's that are on it to have some more breathing room. Also, I noticed some kits come with extended brake lines and others don't, also will I need a track bar drop mount for 4 inches? Finally, I also noticed some kits come with new sway bar links and some are not listed. Is this a must also with 4 inches?

Thanks in advance

Kris

i put rough country in mine...was in my budget and also came w/shocks,links,ect....just had to buy the brake hoses....i think they were crown($100 for all 3)...pretty happy w/it:D

Thanks, like anything, I have read mixed reviews about the RC lifts. My budget is under $1000. I was considering Pro-Comp. The listing as to what comes with it seems very Limited . No sway bar links and doesn't even come with the cheap shock boots. lol

i also looked at superlift....i think they have a master kit.

I've been happy with my superlift springs.
As far as kits go you need to check what they come with and what thoes parts would cost if you bought them somewhere else, the kits are not always cheaper, or have the quality parts you may want.
You do need the extended brake lines.
Cj do not have trak bars. You will need a drop pitman arm or better yet a tie rod/ draglink flip.
As for the sway bars I just cut mine and added 4" to the middle, if you want quick disconects than I'd buy them unless you liked what came in a kit. To be honest I don't even run mine anymore the springs are stiff enough to not need them.
I don't believe a Transfer Case drop is needed or wanted either.

Thank you, I currently am in Louisiana and the CJ was bought unseen. Its in Michigan. I did not realize they did not have track bars. We have an 89 YJ as well I did a SOA on that turned out great and I fabbed up track bar drop for that. I just assumed. Thank you for the advice.

I've been looking at buying a lift kit as well. Rough Country seems to be a good fit. Does anyone have past experience with an RC lift?

I went with the rubicon express 4.5 which I have put 2500 miles on so far without any issues besides re-tightening a couple of times... The thing I liked. About the re5525 kit was that it comes with everything needed and good quality. Transfer Case drop kit, quick disconnects, longer stainless braided brake lines, degree wedges, drop pitman arm... Shocks were not included and the ride seems to be nicer than my stock suspension...

You shouldn't need track bars unless going SOA..

Hope this helps...BTW sometimes you can save initially by buying a cheaper kit. But the parts it doesn't come with will cost ytou more in the end....

I agree. The ride is great and it has performed very well offroad. Can't beat the price.

i am happy w/ my RC....great kit for the $$...plus the cost of some of the other is pretty crazy......RE..$1,300 no shocks seems crazy to me? how much better could they be??

also i got the drop pitman, but after reading...gonna do tierod flip instead.

:)Depending on lift, sometimes you may need both the dropped Pittman arm & the tie rod flip to get the proper steering geometry..........
:D:D:D:D

I just have a drop pitman arm and it drives well with just that. Drives great actually. Straight and true with no bump steer. With the new H1 box I can one finger drive it even at highway speeds. I have had no complaints with the lift or the included drop pitman arm. Wish I could say the same for the jeep. Can of worms . . . . A big can, haha

put mine in around nov. 2011....about maybe 5k for miles.....dont have any complaints yet:D

You folks with th RC lifts, how long have you had them on? I have heard RC springs wear out fast.

Not very long. I think I had mine put on in April or May of this year. I was told the springs I bought were a new design, from RC, in that they were military wrapped. They are definitely beefy springs. Much more heavy duty than the skyjacker springs on my buddies 79 CJ7 .
