Hey everyone, i've looked everywhere and can't find how long the stock shackles for my '75 should be. The PO said everything was stock but the shackles seem heavy duty and its got 33x12.50s with no clearance issues. I've bought 2.5'' lift springs and i want to make sure the shocks are the right length. thanks in advance

It was hard for me to tell but they look stock, maybe a little closer pic would help ( old eyes  )

Da, can you get a close up of a shackle? It is hard to see from that view. I also checked out your gallery and couldn't tell.

hey guys thanks for the help. here's some new pictures. sorry i don't have a tape measure. hope this works

That is definately not a stock shackle, it does look like a nice piece, the stock one is probably half that long

Don't know about your year but in 83 stock was 3" bh to bh. yours are not stock and look to be about 4" for a 1/2" lift.

If your clearing 33 in. tires no problem Id be willing to bet you already have 2 1/2 in. springs on it.

I knew the springs were stock thats I figured they must be lift shackles. thanks for the input everyone.

I agree with petescj, if you running 33x12.5 with no trouble the springs are not stock.

Do you have any steering issues with those shackles because they are definitely not stock and everyone here seems to hate lift shackles because of steering issues? I had some like that on an 85 CJ7 and didn't have any steering issues so I am just curious.

Not everyone hates them...I have the same shackles as the OP, and my CJ rides and drives just fine. I do have a shackle reversal tho.

1/2 to 3/4 lift with shackle are in my opinion OK, But when you start going bigger then you start messing with caster as well as the possibility of wander.
if you don't have these issues and are clearing 33's then you should be set to go.

Yea what he said.:chug:

I run 1 inch shackles and reset my spring perches to get rid of the steering issues. A little bit of work and you really need to want to do it, but well worth the effort, that way I can run softer springs for the lift I want. Leaf springs are a study in themselfs, sway because of to big a shackle can be a problem so you need to be careful of long lift shackles. As always a cheap out is usually a stupid out, but then every god idea gets overused. Lift shackles are not a bad idea if using short ones to tune a set of springs, but using huge ones is not a good idea.
