Hi all,

I am from California and my 79cj7 tags are due in may, but it needs to be snigger. I took it down to a smog shop and it did not pass the emissions test. A smoke test was done to see where the vapors were leaking. The smoke was wining from the liquid rollover check valve. I was told that needed to be replaced of course. Only problem, I found some online, but I am not sure because there are rollover check valves and liquid check valves. I am unsure on which to get.

Omix Fuel Check Valve - 17731.01

That one isn't for my 79, but it is what I am looking for.

I appreciate your help. Thank you!

Of course, that is one from the later CJs. You could try it, but I think it is all up to the guy doing the testing. You probably should go talk to that guy. Hopefully, he won't send you to a smog referee. There is also a check valve that goes next to it. These guys might be able to get you the exact parts:J&W Auto Wreckers: New & Used Jeep Parts - Home

On my 83 I took the cracked/broken plastic one out and down to my local Napa and we found a new all metal check valve that fit a Nissan (sorry I dont recall which model) . I had to drill one new mounting hole in the bracket, but otherwise worked perfect.

I recall something about that. It was like a mid 90's Altima I think.

On my CJ I have two check valves that I bought from a local Delorean outfit:DeLorean Motor Company - ROLL OVER VALVE. One for each hose. These are pretty popular on the CJ and Wrangler forums. When I walked into the Delorean shop, I was wearing some sort of CJ t-shirt and they knew exactly what I wanted. I am sure these are probably not legal in Ca., but the smog guy I go to has never checked.

Try MTS Company. They should anything you need. I believe it is www.mtscompany.com

Fuel, Check Valve; 84-86 Jeep CJ - 17731.01 - JeepersDen & Truck Accessories

mine is shipping to me now.

the key is that they are listed as 84-86 models only but it looks exactly like the one on my '80. will report back when i get it.

hopefully it gets here tomorrow or saturday so I can try to finish the install of the tank and try to get the jeep cranked over.

these look to be much cheaper than the MTS hodge-podge ones.. Q-Tec has them on there website as well but they are backordered a little bit.

I am going to use this on my '80 because the one that I pulled off looks just like the pictures.. not sure why they are listed as 84-86 though.

smbundy13, did it work? I just started my 80 CJ7 for the first time in a while and fuel poured out of the Liquid Check Valve. Like you said, the one you bought looks right...

thanks,

thanks,

I ended up canceling my order because it was backorded 6-9 weeks. I bought the mts part off of eBay. Haven't hooked it up yet.

I had the same problem in my CJ trying to pass smog. I was doing the same thing looking on the web and considering the Delorean ones. For my 84 they're the same ones that go in the wranglers. I picked mine up from the stealership strangely enough. Fit perfectly and passed smog the next day. Maybe someone else can chime in if the 79 rollover valves are the same as the 84. I would think they're the same but that kind of thinking gets me into trouble sometimes lol.

Good luck with it.

Vapor check valve P/N is: J3198666. It's the same for CJs and full size Jeep models from that era.

Liquid roll over valve P/N is: J3227951. It's the same for all CJ models.

It really won't matter what brand or style you use; make sure all the hose connections are the same and it doesn't leak.

Can't really find anything that would work from the #s listed. It would be great to find a good over the counter replacement for that check valve, anybody?
